Pours a very dark brown with a dark tan head. Slightly bitter coffee like taste with a smooth finish, very little aftertaste. A very satisfying stout for newbies, but not for those seeking the best that is out there. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Feb 18, 2006 From a bottle into a snifter. Beer pours a nearly opaque, reddish brown-black color with a large, light brown, frothy/creamy, mostly and quickly diminishing head. The aroma is really roasty: Heavy malt notes of heavily roasted grain and coffee, lightly hoppy with an herbal note, and miscellaneous notes of brine and basement/cellar. The flavor is heavily bitter, moderately acidic and lightly sweet with a long, moderately bitter, moderately acidic, slightly salty finish. There’s a strong nasty dusty aftertaste that gives me the willies—I’m not quite sure what to call it exactly. It tastes/retronasally smells like what I would imagine licking a dust off of a box in the attic might taste like. The body is medium, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively. I’m done. :P ATOmemphis (200), Franklin, Tennessee, USA

Quite roasty and very sweet to the taste. Finishes ok, but best description is the smoothness. Tasted better as it warmed closer to room temp. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 12, 2006 Bottle. Very dark brown with a rich, beige head. Aroma full of chocolate, fruit and roasted malts in the background. Flavour starts sweet with chocolate, there is hint of berries, but towards the finish the roasted flavours take over, ending rather dry. Some spicy yeastiness. Light to medium body. A very nice stout it is. PGA324 (85), Savage, Minnesota, USA
