The beer poured a cloudy copper color with a three finger tan head that lasts a long time. The smell is a citrus and hops all the way. The taste starts of with a good bitterness fallowed by a malty finish. A good pick! radagast83 (1315), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 31, 2006 Decent brew from Youngs, not as good as any of the other beers I’ve had from them, but I enjoyed this one. Heavy alcohol content, and a dry bitter flavor are the two main attractions to this one. HarryFlashman (469), Chatham, Kent, England
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 30, 2006 This is a very bitter, dry, hoppy ale from the Youngs boys. Lighter in colour than one would expect: chiefly an ambery copper. 6.4% in strength and tastes every percentile of that percentage. Fairly enjoyable if quaffed slowly on a winter day, but not what I would call a session beer; if you tried to neck more than two of these mothers, you’d be in big trouble! Also, beware - this is a living "real ale", classified thus by CAMRA as it matures in the bottle. So, beware that there is sediment in the bottle; leave just a little ale in the bottle when pouring as if you drink that sediment, you may well wake up with the squits in the morning! chef201atc (249), Weatherford, Texas, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Dec 28, 2006 Clear light copper color, ample frothy off-white head. Aroma is spicy with a bit of fruit and hops in the background. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Taste is sort of one dimensional, typical of english style ales - maltly with a dry finish. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 27, 2006 Poured an effervescent golden with a large fizzy white head. Nice aroma of apples, pears, some dry alcohol and grassy hops. Flavor is dry with some floral essences, pear, and a touch of English grassy hops. Body is full and moderately fizzy. Somewhat dry finish with a bit of a metallic/cardboard aftertaste that makes the beer feel a bit more generic. Sort of a bizarre cross between an English and a Belgian ale. Not perfect, but this is a pretty nice English Strong. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 25, 2006 Poured light bronze with a good sized cream colored head. The aroma had a good malt presence that seems creamy and fruity with an underlying hop presence. Not as full as I would expect. Medium / full body with a lot of pricly carbonation. Starts with fruity malt with some buttery notes and some spicy traits and buttery notes. Fairly rich tasting. If the butteriness was absent this will be a pretty good beer. I would like to taste it fresh, but it doesn’t look like that is an option anymore. TaktikMTL (2786), Montréal-Nord, Quebec, Canada
