Flavour is rich and slightly vinous with great nutty malts coming through. Mouthfeel slightly overcarbed. Lingering sweet malt finish. A good un. GuilTTy (538), Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 15, 2005 Clear copper pour with a quickly dissipating light tan rocky head and plenty of lacing. You can peg this as an English ale blinfolded due to the signature grassy, toasted malt & fuggles hoppy aroma. Mildly sour and coppery notes on the toungue gave way to some nice malty sweetness and a healthy dose of light toffee or caramel. Hop profile was reserved but not hidden with more classic fuggles hop bitterness in the dry finish. Definately not a session brew at 6.4%abv but every indication of alcahol was kept completely under wraps making this a dangerously drinkable ale. green (187), Boston, Massachusetts, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Mar 6, 2005 Cellar temp. Metalic aroma. Clear and copper with a frothy white head. Slightly sweet and rather malty. Finish is very mild bitterness with a residual dry malt extract like effect. As average as average can be, but take this with a grain of salt: it is 5 months past it’s best before date. Must be a long ride to Kentucky. oh6gdx (9102), Vasa, Finland
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Mar 4, 2005 Bottled. Reddish golden colour, small white head. Hoppy aroma with fruitish/caramellish hints. Bitter caramellish sweet taste, in an unpleasant (or even horrible) way. Not much aftertaste. KAggie97 (2477), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 26, 2005 Nice sweetness followed by a bitter coffee-like flavor. I like to have this one every once in awhile. Good stuff. haddonsman (1234), Derby, Derbyshire, England
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 23, 2005 Bottled. Fat hop nose, gentle caramel orange body, naught but a halo of head, hop crackle with a fruity tickle, incredibly dry, a bananary kick replaced by a citric sourness.... there’s a lot going on here, when a good strong ale needs to be doing simple things well. Enjoyable but overworked. MAP (1089), Lakewood, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 23, 2005 Orange copper color and a thin head on top. The aroma to this is sweet and malty, butterscotch and grain. The flavor has more of a metalic tint to it, but is marked with more of a candy sweetness and a tad of hop flavor as well. Pretty good english strong ale, reminding me that I need to drink more of these. steview (902), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 22, 2005 trappist / sweet, slighly gym, slighly cheesy, but inviting; interesting. active light copper body that has a lot of tiny beading bubbles--this is a good sign! frothy, soapy, bone white head that does not want to fully diminish--another good sign! yum! interesting flavor. it has a spicy kick in the aftertaste. spicy, fruity, hoppy, malty; clove, toffee, banana, ... is this a hefebock? neat stuff. and as it warms the spice really comes out, and the chewy yeasty mineral thickness, also... as well as the building creaminess. mmm. complex, delicious. (let it warm! savor it!) this may not be excellent, but it’s daamnnnn good...
