bsm80 (100), Massapequa, New York, USA Sep 7, 2008 Dark brown almost black pour with nice lasting tan head, lacing is also impressive, looks like a nice porter. Smell is quite roasted, sweet and malty, strong roasted chocolate flavor, toasted coffee, soothing bitter on the pallet, all around solid porter. FatguyRacer (86), Crownsville, Maryland, USA Sep 6, 2008 Bottle. Hmmm....Good stuff from Yuengling. Better than their regular lager and not much more in price. Everything about it says it should cost much more than it does. My only complaint is that it’s a bit watery and thin on the mouth feel. Othewise, another good cheap beer to add to the regular rotation. rampmaster (144), Alden, New York, USA Sep 2, 2008 Presentation: It was poured from tap into a pint glass.
Appearance: It had a very dark brown almost black colored body that is nearly opaque. It formed a thin, light tan head with excellent retention and very good lacing.
Smell: The aroma is full of dark roasted malts with a smoky character and hints of burnt coffee and a touch of hops.
Taste/Mouth feel: the roasted malt has a slight sweetness that mostly covered up by the roasted smoky/burnt notes. There is a nice bitterness from the hops that comes out more towards the finish, which is dry and slowly fades off the tongue. The body is about medium with a smooth texture and carbonation is about average.
Notes: Overall it’s a decent porter but not as balanced or refined as others of the style.
NJJereme (127), Saint Petersburg, Florida, USA Aug 18, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a thick black/brown color with a thin tan head. Slight aroma of chocolate and heavier scent of roasted coffee beans. More bitter than sweet. Medium bodied with a roasted, bitter finish. Not too bad. thill25 (186), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 15, 2008 12 oz bottle...pours very dark brown w/ a small, frothy tan head that provides some drippy lacing. The aroma was roasted malts, caramelized brown sugar, and toasted nuts. The flavor was roasted malts, coffee, a little vanilla, and some cola sweetness. The palate was thin, watery, but a bit oily...mildly carbonated with a lingering bitter-sweet finish from the hops. Very drinkable and not heavy...good, serviceable porter. Great value beer!
