MrRomero (1934), Nolanville, Texas, USA Apr 20, 2005 Bottle: pours clear dark orange with a small dissipating off white head. Hoppy aroma, lightly citrusy. Flavor is a nice combination of malt and hops. Body is nice: not light, not full. Mild citrus flavor and slight bitter finish. Nice beer. DrGonzo (625), Somerville, Massachusetts, USA Mar 2, 2005 Bottle (contract from Concord). Brilliant rust color and medium head. Has an interesting aroma of berries, malt, low hops. Smells and feels like a Belgian ale, if that means anything. Flavor is initially spicy, toasted malt lingering above mild sweetness, medium weight body. Simply a well made, flavorful and generally interesting beer. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA Nov 11, 2004 bottle, thanks Clark VV. Amber color with a small durable head. Aroma is nutty and mostly malty, no real hop presence. Taste has a nice malt profile with more nuts and toffee and caramel. Solid but not anything above average at best. ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Oct 21, 2004 Updated: Mar 31, 20052004 bottle contract brewed by Concord brewing. Well, not surprisingly, this one was just about as good as the IPA. Whatever they’re doing, they’re doin it right. Wonderful deep cherry red appearane, some light oranges and burgundies. Good light yellow head, mostly clear body. Aroma of ripe red fruits, this thing is exploding with fruity ale yeast. Light hops in the background a mild sweetness. Flavor is almost exactly like the aroma. Incredible fruit esters, creamy mouthfeel, hops not overdone but present. The toastiness is subtle and adds no astringency. This is a spectacular beer. 2005 bottle Initially large off-white head recedes to ring, with some light lacing. Still a brilliant, deep cherry red appearance to the body. Aroma is very hoppy, with a distinct earthy/leafy/nutty bitterness and drying effect. Clean and dry, it finishes without too much malt influence (not enough). Tastes like tea leaves, with lots of toasted malt, some light roast. Very hoppy, though it is a fresh, herbal/spice hoppiness. Ultimately the body proves too light for the amount of hops. Not enough sweet/substantial malt to balance. A bit of crystal malt up front is all that is keeping this from being an IPA. As I finish the glass, I keep thinking, "way too bitter!" Unsure why the great parity between the last batch and this. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Apr 14, 2004 Color here is a lovely uburn, and the head is generous, creamy, honeycombed with tiny bubbles, and cast in a nearly pinkish shade.
Aroma: puzzling at first, minerally, dry, and dull, but soon showing itself to be vigorously toasty, malt having a hammerlock on this, but not to any extreme.
Nice hoppiness, warm and fuzzy, medium bodied, nicely textured.
Flavor arises again and again, never quits, delivers malty, toasty tones that are a joy to sip with each meeting between cup and lip!
There's a spicy, zingy kick in it...I like, I like...
goz (359), Chelmsford, Massachusetts, USA Oct 28, 2003 Pours a medium red, smal off-white head mostly lasts, leaves strong amounts of lace. Aroma is nutty, caramel, some other maltiness, and a good whack of hops in the back. Flavor is mostly nutty, slightly caramel, and a great hop finish. Medium in body, very drinkable. Too bad Z Street is no more... OldGrowth (1407), North Carolina, USA Aug 7, 2003 Bottle: Good nose, nutty carmel. Great clear orange red color. I get a kinda nutty toasted malt with a little green hops taste. Finishes with a malty clean taste. Vey nice indeed. This brewer is coming on strong in Mass MaBeer1972 (421), Leominster, Massachusetts, USA Jul 11, 2003 Updated: Nov 21, 2003A very well-balanced, tasty brew! Deep reddish-orange color with a great malty, somewhat fruity aroma. The flavor is very nutty like a decent brown but a little sweet like a Vienna, with a very good overall hop balance. Nice stuff! RE-Re-rate: Still my favorite Amber of all-time! RE-Rate: R.I.P.!
