jcwattsrugger (3942), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Oct 10, 2007 on tap-pours an off white head that bubbles and dark reddish brown color. Aroma is medium/dark malt-toffee, nutty, roasty, some dark fruit. Taste is light body, medium malt-toffee, hint of hops, fruit. OK carbonation. Ma_Beer (421), Leominster, Massachusetts, USA Jul 17, 2006 On-tap in Burlington. Nice light brown color, medium body. Very flavorful, along the lines of a Sam Smith’s... great session brew. I was pleased with this one. Great with the smoky pizzas (flatbreads) sold here. DYCSoccer17 (2013), Davis, California, USA Jun 16, 2006 4 ounce sample on tap at the brewpub. Roasted, slightly sweet chocolate aroma with some maltiness in the nose. I detect a slight vinousness as well. Pretty quaffable. Transparent cola-color with a small light tan head. Mild toasted maltiness present to start. Minor hints of chocolate follow. Finishes watery, bland, flavorless, and unenjoyable. muzzlehatch (4425), Burlington, Vermont, USA May 22, 2006 Draught pint at the brewpub. Deep translucent cherry-mahogany color with a lasting wisp of head....faint dry, nutty, lightly caramelized aroma with hints of ash coming in late....body is very, very dry, easily the driest example of the style I can remember, ashy and woody with hints of toasted pecans....fairly bitter towards the long finish, no sugar presence at all, it’s completely attenuated....ending is sort of papery and thin. Hmm, a strange beast this, and not one I really want again. Miguel (1181), Sorel-Tracy, Quebec, Canada May 8, 2006 Robe brune surmontée d’une mince mousse blanche. Arômes de fumé, de caramel et de malt torréfié. Saveurs de malt torréfié et de céréales. Aqueuse.
