Rastacouere (5270), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jul 28, 2008 Objectively speaking:
A highly refreshing lager of great balance.
I like:
Very fresh character encompasses all the ingredients. Pleasant whispering hops, but mostly delicious pils malt with a certain sweetness that reminds of honey and vanilla. Tight and efficient, cleansing carbonation. Very clean.
I dislike:
Almost headless. Quickly fading carbonation. Could dry out a bit more.
Glouglouburp (1943), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 16, 2007 Clear yellow body topped by a small white ring of foam leaving no lacing. Aroma and taste of cereals with distant dry citrus fruits. Flavourless hops in the finish provides a light-medium bitterness. Light-medium oily body with a very active carbonation. I found it a bit crispier than what I’ve come to expect from the style (usually rounder with a doughy malt profile). Well put together session beer but instantly forgettable. But that is as much as one can expect from a style that is to beer what adult-soft-rock is to music. MartinT (4330), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 16, 2007 My Bottom Line:
This Helles focuses on its honeyed, bready maltiness to achieve a chewy mouthfeel and drinkable sustenance. Fruity hops add more life, but this pint was all about the humble but effective malts.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the clear golden.
-Cereals return in the simple finish.
-Citrusy hops are supportive, remaining in the background.
-The comfortable carbonation works with the aforementioned maltiness.
On tap at the brewpub. beerbuzzmontreal (2701), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Feb 3, 2007 Pours a cloudy golden color with a thin white head. Aroma of honey, bread and hops. The flavor also has honey, bread and hops. The mouthfeel is creamy. Not exceptional but still interesting. DYCSoccer17 (2013), Davis, California, USA Jun 16, 2006 4 ounce sample at the brewery, called "Munich Helles". Mildly sweet initial aroma with some spicy hoppiness present, and surprisingly lots of bubblegum--grape-flavored Big League Chew, as a matter of fact. Doesn’t smell like a Helles. Transparent yellow-golden color with a small, off-white/yellowish head. Slight sweet, floral, and a bit fruity to start. Turns grainy and cereal-like in the middle. Mild floral hop bitterness to finish. A bit sweet and overly floral for my liking. I wish this were a little drier.
