Crystal clear body and light amber color were the good aspects of the appearance of this newly bottled beer, while the non-existent head and an absence of lacing were not so good. The carbonation was active and steady. The aroma was light and malty and, to my nose at-least, exhibited a cooked corn DMS smell. The taste was better than the smell with a nice interplay between sweet malt and spicy hops. Pretty light on the palette and simple in construction, this Morena is better than the regular Cancun, but not by much.

Knoxville Brewer’s Jam 10/04. Nice deep copper color, with a firm, average head. Good malt aroma with no hop aroma. Good body and mouthfeel with a well balanced flavor that finished a bit drier than the begining. Not too bad really. These folks have taken up shop in the old Sweetwater Brewing facilities in Atlanta. I’m pleased to be the first to rate this one!

This just hit the stores in Atlanta in 12oz bottles. I remember liking this beer at the GA Craft Brew Challenge- quite true to style. No head to speak of, clear amber color. Light fizzy carbonation gives a good but slighly thin mouthfeel. Nice malt flavors with just a hint of a hop bite. A very good refreshing summer beer, very drinkable.

Pours gold with a white head. Smells of toasted malt and fruity. Tastes fruity and toasty with a tarte, citrussy finish.

Notes from two samplings - once at Decatur Beerfest 05, 2nd at Georgia Craft Beer Challenge 05. Clear coppery amber pour. Big malty grainy nose, with a touch of hops. More big malty grainy flavors, fairly smooth, and somewhat sweet. I’m not a big fan of Vienna lagers, but this was decent, and a good representative of the style I felt.

5/06/2007: Cancun Morena Dark Lager pours a transparent, shiny copper/light amber color. It has a moderate level of visible carbonation and a fizzy, very quickly dissipating, off-white head. The aroma is malty with some chocolate and roasty undertones. This beer has a good malty flavor. It is moderately sweet and has a very small amount of roasted caramel and a hint of butter in the flavor as well. Thks beer has medium, smooth, and satisfying body that is slightly creamy. It is also calm on the palate. Overall Cancum Morena is a surprisingly well-done Vienna that would taste great any time - especially right after mowing the lawn (which was when I had this one)!

12 oz bottle (Best if enjoyed by: Month 10, Week 2) from decaturstevo (Apr 2007). Thanks Steveo!

Sampled on 8/3/06: Pours a clear dark bronze with a thin ring of white head. Aroma has some sweet toasty caramel maltiness. Body starts sweet with good Vienna caramel maltiness, some grainy character and a touch of noble hops. A nice, easy drinking Vienna.

2005 GCBC. Clear deep amber color. Huge malty aroma. Like freshy steep grains. Flavor also huge malt toffee and nutty. Moderately sweet.
