Nutty roasty aroma with hints of dried fruits and chocolate malts. Lightly oxidized slight soy hints, more toffee, caramel, chocolate and nuts. Mouthfeel is pretty smooth but finishes with a bit of astringency. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 10, 2006 Deep, translucent and blackish brown in color with a heavily dusted tan ice sheaf for the head and tough, blanketing lace. Black licorice, port, anise, tar, ash and burnt molasses all sonorously sing unto the nose. The direction it’s going is brilliant. Gritty, blackened caramel comes in the aromatic backend, and there’s a touch of simmered and burnt burgundy. Flavor comes in full stream and is less burnt than its preceding nostril indicators. Sandy sensations and caramel rippling through lactic milk chocolate envelop both mocha beans and prunes under one candy shell. Thickens and excretes the darker nature of the baltics. Gritty but steady, and a fuller-bodied stream. Port and anise team with cold pressed, greasy, South American cocoa beans, leading into an earthy, dirty, sweaty, subterranean plum flavor and texture. Cigarette ashes hug the corners of the mouth, wrapping the tongue in a cinder rocked leaf enclosure and a bourbon, caramel, dark chocolate syncrocity. Thanks for the bottle, tpkenned! It’s beers like these that make rating worthwhile. skortila (2914), Bunnik, Netherlands

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 2, 2006 A dark brown pour. A nice light coffee flavor. A nice palate that is just smooth all the way across. Just a hint of alcohol that makes this an excellent holiday beer. I really like it. Papsoe (15109), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 1, 2006 (Bottle 33 cl) Pours a clear, reddish mahogany with a small, creamy, beige head. Aroma of hard roasted malt and some alcohol. Fairly solid body with lots of roasted malt. Malt bitter finish. 260806 Ibrew2or3 (2833), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Aug 31, 2006 Pours very dark with thin light brown head. Light aroma has some sweetness and roasted malt to it. This beer has a chewy mouthfeel. Sweet caramel and dark fruit flavors seem to be the main players. Then the burnt and chocolate malts emerge through the haze of sweetness. I also get a touch of cherries that are followed by the alcohol warmth. Tasty beer with 500mL at 9.5% ABV makes everything is just fine. SSSteve (2104), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
