A big aroma of alcohol and bready, roasty malts fills my awaiting nostrils on first whiff. There is something very sweet in this brew, and I am taken aback with big flavors of woody chocolate and warming alcohol. A slight toffee, and fruity after flavor leaves feeling like I could drink another, and I will....... JoeMcPhee (5010), Jackson Heights, New York, USA

Nice sweet toasty aroma, chewy fruity malts over a touch of licorice and chocolate. Flavour is quite sweet, dark chocolate, a little bit leathery and malty. Nice slightly salty malt character. Chewy and toffeeish body. Lingering sweet/salty savoury flavour. Heavy toast and chocolate malts. Nice long lingering dark chocolate bitterness. Awesome brew and a deal at $1.29 a bottle. harrisoni (6828), Ashford, Kent, England

Good choc/coffee aroma with some freshness too. Velvety in the mouth with no dead feel. Malt has some sweetness, but there is a bit of dryness on the end to balance it. Very pleasant porter. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 30, 2005 Bottle: Courtesy of Secret Santa. Aroma of chocolate, black licorice, berries, roasted malt, and a hint of alcohol. Pours a dark brown with some red hilights when held to the light. Small tan head lasts a minute or so. Lots of chocolate, black licorice, raisin, and light fruitiness. Finishes with some light sugar, moderate roasted malt and coffee, and a very mild bitterness. No real detection of alcohol in flavor or warmth. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA

Taste is bitter roasted coffee with a touch of apple and a small amount of sweetness. Alcohol is quite prevalent and takes a bit away from the smoothness of the beer. Very thick body, oily. A good sipping porter. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA

Very sweet molasses and prune aroma with a whiff of alcohol. The body is a dark brown/black and holds a two finger thick tan head. Malty, dark chocolate...medium roast. Prune, pumpernickel and raisin on the back end. More bitter finish than I recall. Still nice, but seems thinner and roastier than I recall.

Very aromatic. Lots of caramel and chocolate with fresh dark bread notes as well. Deep black color with a beautiful three finger thick mocha head. Very roasty...burnt pumpernickel and dark chocolate flavors pop out. Head never gives up it stays huge and fluffy...beautiful looking beer. Some herb and vegetal flavors come out in further sips. Roast malt and chocolate aroma.
This has some subdued sweetness and the chocolate flavors are accompanied by a mildly bitter roast malt bite. Creamy smooth with some alcohol in the finish. spkldhenlvr24 (462), Newburgh/Buffalo, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 21, 2005 Bottle at a small, old Polish theatre house in Buffalo. This place had a bunch of hard to find imported bottled Polish beers. Very dark brown almost opaque with a slight red hue. Small quick
tan head. Nice roasted, smokey chocolate/dark fruity aroma. Roasted sweet malty flavor. Slighty bitter/alcohol aftertaste. Smooth, full-bodied porter. Worth the search and wait for this beer.
