Deep dark brown with glowing ruby edges and a small but persistent tan head. Aroma belies a coming sweetness and predicts a smooth roast and some serious caramelized fruits. Soft and round flavors are full and roasty-dry with highlights of anise and tobacco. The body is so smooth, it’s amost a beer custard. Lingering brine reminds of olives; hints of other dried fruits, raisins, cherries, blueberries. Finishes on the sweet side, but this stuff never gets overly sweet as I expected, nor does the alcohol interfere. The malts in this beer are so intense and round.
