Aroma of grains, malt, and a bit of alcohol. Complex flavor, with plenty of malts, caramel, dark fruits, and alcohol. There was an off-putting metallic taste at first, but this went away as I drank it. The mouthfeel is distinctly overcarbonated. Solid, but a bit disappointing. thefle (113), , New Jersey, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 4, 2009 ok beer. Taste is a bit malty/smokey. The real story here is the value, for a 9.5% abv beer that is this solid 2 dollars a bottle is absurd. I am not really a fan of the taste overall but i’ll be damned if this isn’t one of the best value buys out there Rustyham (585), miami, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 2, 2009 Begins light for a Baltic Porter, thin but still flavorful. Dark as pitch with an off white head, flavors are primarily of anise, roasted malt, and coffee. But, like all good porters, as it warms, the thickness grows along with its complexity. I still prefer Baltika 6 Porter, though (it’s cheaper and sweeter) FlssmrBrewAlum (1174), Lisle, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 2, 2009 16.9 oz bottle courtesy of Binnys (Orland Park, Il). Pours a near black pour with small tan head that dissipates a little. Aromas are sweet roasted malt, chocolate creaminess, and a touch of coffee, mixed with a subtle underlying sweetness of licorice. Yum. Initial is lighter in body, with subtle roasted malt covered with chocolate, cream, and sweet malts with licorice. Enough bitterness in the finish, with warming alcohol in the body. Lacks complexity, but certainly tasty. A bit too strong alcohol wise for me. I’d enjoy this again, but as a stand alone sipper. I also likely wouldn’t seek this out. Roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruit and licorice aroma. Flavour is roasted malt, dark chocolate, dark fruits and hop bitterness. Smooth and creamy finish. This is a fantastic beer. hayduke (1664), Eureka, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 21, 2009 From a 500 ml bottle costing $1.99 at BevMo this poured a rich red that looks almost black until you hold it up to the light, with an attractive tan head and good lacing rings. Nose of roated malts, ripe fruti, and some coffee. Rich and creamy mouthfeel.
Flavor includes chocolate, coffee, toffee, fruit, and and little bitterness from the hops. Great porter. guzzler67 (1286), Hanover, Maryland, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 19, 2009 Dark enough so that no light escapes, with a large, light brown head and beautiful lacing. Molassas comes through first in the aroma, tangled in with the roasted malts and dark fruits. Flavors of caramel, toffee, molassas, licorice, some bitter coffee and a little bit of smoke. Respectably hopped with a good alcohol kick felt in the aftertaste. Full bodied mouthfeel with a dry, lingering finish. Well crafted and true to style; a real good bang for your buck.
