cask ale

Cask ale is unfiltered, unpasteurised beer received from the brewer in a cask that undergoes finishing steps in and is served from the container itself. Finishing steps, or conditioning, may include fining and allowing secondary fermentation in the cask itself. Cask ale is served without being propelled by nitrogen nor carbon dioxide nor is any additional gas purposefully added to the beer itself. These ales might also be called "real ale", a term created by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) in the 1970s.
