Estonians may have noticed even more very expensive beers appearing in some of the shops recently, at unprecedented prices, so it’s clearly time to start thinking about another tasting session where we can share the burdon of such scary prices. I have no idea exactly when the tasting will be, but I guess late summer or early autumn. I’ve started this thread so that anyone who’s interested in attending can suggest impossible dates, and also hopefully suggest beers that they will be able to contribute, so that unwanted duplication can be avoided.

Just in case anyone was wondering, the tasting session which featured in the Beer Revolution documentary was the third overpriced beer tasting last year.

2nd half of september or thereabouts looks impossible for me.

Put to one side for the tasting so far are:

Brewdog Abstrakt AB:19 (375ml for ~16e from Alus Celle, Riga)
Burrow Hill Ice Cider (500ml for ~24e from Pothouse, Tallinn)
Dupont Givre Millesime 2012 (375ml for 25e from Siidrimaja, Tallinn)

Currently I have these for the tasting:

Chimay Grande Réserve Vieillie en fûts de Bois (750ml for ~25€ from SIP, Tallinn)
3 Fonteinen Hommage (750ml for ~40€ from Pothouse, Tallinn)
+1 more Burrow Hill Ice Cider (but I guess we don’t need the 2nd one?! I can trade/gift mine away, if we don’t need it)

2 more puppies from pothouse (a notice to sourheads - they only have 2 bottles of each left):

Bzart Lambiek 2012 (30e, Pothouse, Tallinn)
Bzart Kiekenlambiek 2012 (30e, Pothouse, Tallinn)

In the Estonian alko register there is new version of chimay blue oak aged with different barrels (more info at chimay’s website http://chimay.com/barriques ). They seem to be doing the same crazy thing as la trappe with their quads, where new batch=different barrels. So be on the look out for that one. You may let me know if you see it on sale in Tallinn, so I can buy it for the tasting. I have seen 2015 version only in SIP, hence it may not be easy to find.

Oooh, thanks for that info, I’ll ask Kairi and Martin to keep an eye out for those.

I think we’re still missing some of the sours from there - at least 2 IIRC.

I recently bought a BrewDog Abstrakt which I think was AB:05 (if so, from about 2011!), which was certainly at the "overpriced" price point (~16e/375ml), in particular if you’re not a fan of their silly beers.

Pothouse were down to their Intense Red (31e/750ml), and nobody’d shouted about getting it, so I picked it up.

I still don’t think we’re on top of all the Estonian imports that fit the description yet.
Has anything appeared on the Finnish radar recently?

We should set the date for the tasting.

There is ice-ice cider available in Finnish Alko ( http://www.alko.fi/tuotteet/740504/ ) that would fit with the theme of the tasting, maybe someone from Finland can pick it up?! :)
