In all seriousness, I think west coast and northeast oysters are better, but Gulf oysters are still badass. With the exception of ones that make you sick, there isn’t such thing as a bad oyster.

Let me know if you want some Pacific or NE oysters, they can be obtained fairly easily, but they are not cheap. But that bag of Apalachicola oysters we ate at GoT’s tasting were damn good, but you guys suck at shucking oysters.

I absolutely LOVE oysters and frequently indulge, but I don’t think that geography has as much of an impact as some seem to think. No doubt some regions are more favorable (like terroir with grape vine and hops), but in the end major variables include weather patterns, environmental conditions, biological factors, harvesting, freshness, handling, etc.
I’ve had freaking OUTSTANDING oysters from Maine, PNW, California, Canada, Japan, France, Louisiana, South Carolina, Maryland, New Jersey, etc.
On the other hand, I had a batch of Cape Neddick Oysters last week that were dull as hell and I puked my guts out a few months ago due to an errant Kumamoto from Morimoto.
In terms of flavor and freshness, my favorite oyster experiences have repeatedly occurred in Charleston, SC.

Clearly you’ve never had green-lipped oysters from the Gironde that you’ve dived in and fetched yourself - with Jaques Cousteau assisting - and then sat on the shore knocking then back with a nice Batard Montrachet (at 800 a bottle) served out by none other than Robert Parker.

ooooohh. that sounds delish!
i need a sunday off again. short of buying a bushel of my own, riverside always has damn good oysters for their weekly sunday brunch which is the only time it’s worth going there, imnsho.
