I wouldn’t stake my reputation on it, but I am fairly sure it was 1993. 11/3/2009 8:04:41 AM

"BCS was first brewed in 1994 in celebration of Goose Island’s 1000th batch at its original Brewpub. The mash uses huge quantities of malt, and, after fermentation, the stout is aged for 100 days in bourbon barrels. Greg Hall, Goose Island’s Brewmaster calls it a "glorious stout ... a liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with thick foam the color of a bourbon barrel. The nose is an intense mix of charred oak, chocolate, vanilla, caramel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer."

not sure when it was first bottled.... 2004, 2005?

BCS’s first public release was in 05. The first batch was bottled on -1/05/05. There were very few cases of this first batch made and it sold out in a day or two. I believe it was a Chicago only release. This one is still my favorite batch.

There are a few 2003 Test Batch (not public) bottles floating around.

Not sure what qualifies as a test batch - but I know initially they sold a limited number of their ’premium’ beers in highly generic looking 12 oz. bottles (basically a white sticker label with the name of the beer in-jetted on the bottom of the label). I should still have an IPA and Pere Jaques from those days cellared! 11/3/2009 6:50:06 PM

I have a few of those plain white labeled Goose Island beers also (Batch 2000 Bareywine ect.). I purchased this at the from the bar at GI Clybourn.
I believe the 2003 BCS may be something along those lines. The first commercial release with legal labels was Jan. 05.
