Hello all, I found the site via a post I seen on Facebook.

Mark here from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Where I live there are no quality pubs selling decent or unusual beers. It’s all mass produced stuff like Carlseberg and Guinness. In saying that I do like a decent stout so I’m not lost for a pint when I head out.

To find the decent, quirky or specialised stuff I have to go into the city centre, attend a beer festival or buy from the supermarket. The good news is that beer is becoming hipster again and there are several local breweries starting to make inroads into the local market.

I brew my own! I can make a decent brew that is as good as the specialised stuff and that will knock socks off a mass produced beer. I have a house stout that I tweak the recipe every time.

As my other thread, I find it hard to describe a beer, I feel a good beer also involves it’s company and surrounding. I love a black Czech Lager but that was because I loved the city and the pub in question.

Anyway, hope I can be of use with my brewing knowledge and maybe try and replicate a few of the beers that are suggested on the site.

welcome to the community. I haven’t been to Belfast since around 2003, the pubs were lots of fun. Glad the beer scene has improved though!
The Vineyard wine/beer shop is the top rated place in Belfast, what’s your opinion? And do CAMRA have a branch there?

Never been in the Vineyard as don’t really drink in the city centre much (maybe at Christmas :) Where I live it’s mostly working mens clubs and pubs but both scenes are dying. We have stricter licensing laws than the rest of the UK and the beer scene has hit rock bottom. There is light at the end of the tunnel though as local breweries are increasing. People do prefer quality over quantity.

Yes CAMRA have a branch although I’m not a member. They have an annual beer festival in the Ulster Hall which is 2 minutes from the city hall in November (17th-19th this year). I go most years :)

Belfast is a great weekend spot for anyone. It’s one of the more vibrant cities in the UK despite my negativity.

Welcome! I used to live in South Belfast, got my MA at Queens. I did visit a few solid craft beer places. The Vineyard was a good shop. I agree, Belfast is a lovely little town with lots too see beyond black cab tour stuff. I miss sitting up in the library and looking over the mountains and Belfast on stormy days.

A very under represented area. Welcome. Beersiveknown is a top guy who lives over there and I am sure would be happy to help out with any local queries. He is your local admin too.

Welcome to the site. You should definitely check out the UK & Ireland forum.

Personally my knowledge of NI breweries and beers is basically nil so it’s great to have another member from Belfast.
