hen can I expect to see hops flowers begin to develop? The plant is ten feet high and still climbing several inches a day. Just wondering...

Here on the 35th paralell I have 5 plants actively burring. The others are working hard on the laterals. Temps are in the low 80’s to mid 90’s.

Harvest is usually around late August / early september so I would usually expect anything til mid July. YRMV.

My Cascade has 3 or 4 good vines, the highest one is about 13 feet now. The Ultra is only about 8 feet and the Goldings is a meager 4 feet. I expect to get some cones from the Cascades this first year! I read they start laterals after reaching about 20 feet, so that’ll be in a week or two. This is cool! I haven’t trimmed away all the little shoots around the base, maybe in a few weeks I’ll trim those back. Next year I’ll need a better trellis system. They don’t like going horizontally. 6/28/2008 2:55:17 PM

I’m at 38 degrees latitude, and my larger vines(Centennial, Fuggle, and Liberty) all have cones on them, some of them approaching full sized.

My Perle vines are the smallest, and they just recently started flowering. Unfortunately they also got attacked by the Japanese beetles, so I had to launch a counter-offensive today. Anyone have any creative solutions for the Japanese beetles? I just pick them off into soapy water.

Mine are just starting to bud after being planted the first day of May. Actually, I lost 4 of the crowns because of poor weather, 2 survived (one each of Cascade and Centennial). I am not holding out hope for the Willamette.
This is the first year for these vines, so I am not expecting much anyway.

I planted mine early this year, but they seemed to come up late. 6/6 sprouted and started growing nicely until dog (piss) and freak storm (blowing grill over) killed two of them. My plants are all about 3 feet high and growing! Maybe next year I’ll get some amount of harvest... 6/30/2008 2:05:06 PM

My Cascade is growing 6 inches a day, it’s grown 6 feet in 10 days!! I have three or four good vines going and side shoots at about 8 feet. I’ll be shocked if I don’t have cones in a few weeks. I’m leaving town for 10 days, and nature will have to keep the bines watered (can’t trust my neighbor to do it), but I expect it will be two feet past the top of my 16 foot support pole. The bine will just have to hang loose! This is a first year rhizome, too! I know Cascade grows quickly, but I don’t know if it’ll produce this year, but it sure acts like it will. I didn’t plant these until early May up here in southern Michigan. Followed directions and did everything right and it worked. thumbs upthumbs upcheers!cheers!applauseexcitedpax 7/1/2008 8:40:28 PM
