  ey Everyone,
Just thought I would see if there were any fellow beer nerds/geeks/collectors/fans, etc. in and around the Geneva area?
I just arrived from the US (the New York and New Jersey area), and have started brew hunting a bit, and it would be great to catch up with other Ratebeerians if you are around. Even though I have only been on Ratebeer less than a year, I have been on that other site for the past two.
Anyway, just thought I would see if anyone was around and interested in catching up. Also, I’m looking for any advice (outside the place listings already on RB) in case anyone has thoughts.
Cheers,
Nick

Should add that I am here for the next 10 months, and will be trying to see a bit of Switzerland during that time. Maybe I will run across some folks during those travels.

I’m no longer in Switzerland, but I know a bit about Geneva.
Almost all places that I know are already listed, and personally I can’t warmly recommend any.
You will have some better chance if you can drive up near Lausanne and go to one of the ABB shops, or Vevey and go to Amstein.
BFM and Trois Dames have both quality and acceptable shop distribution; look for those.
In Switzerland some small deli shop or cheese shop may have few of these craft beers.
In the wine shop just above the train station at the airport you’ll find a couple of beers, among which the Calvinus Brune (not spectacular, but difficult to find).
There used to be a beer shop in Carouge (just outside Geneva); the name was "La Cave à Bière" in rue Ancienne 19; it now has a different name and operates as bar and shop; they open at 5 or 6pm; it would be great if you can check name, hours and selection, and add it to Ratebeer.
This would probably be your best place.
If you drive just across the border, you will find some beers in the big French supermarkets; you will find a few supermarkets going to Gex; or before entering Annecy (that I also recommend for a nice daytrip); or on the road to Evian.
In France you can find a good number of ciders too.
If you are into mead, in some "crêpe" restaurant (crêperie) they may have one, and cider too.
There are no ratebeerians active in Geneva; it would be great if you can investigate and update the Places section!
Good luck!
Alex

Thanks for the great advice, Alex! I actually stopped by the Cave a Biere when I was exploring the other day, and it was still a couple of hours before it opened. I will definitely add it to RB with updated information soon. Unfortunately, I don’t have a car, but am planning a trip to Laussane soon. I hope that I can hit up some places around the area via public transport.
I will also add a couple of other places. Coop carries some respectable brews relative to the selection in Geneva (nothing rare, but I found a couple of Brooklyn Brewery beers for exmaple along with some solid Belgians). The huge Globus carries both Trois Dames and BFM, which was a nice (albeit expensive) surprise.
Thanks again, and I will definitely hunt down that Calvinus Brune. Saw the Noire the other day, and should have picked it up. Not bad brews, and certainly new to me. Thanks again for the advice, really helpful stuff and great to start my journey with.
Best,
Nick
