ow are they?

I bought a bunch a few months ago and it was absolutely horrible - nutty malts, cheery, caramel, and no hops. I want more but I don’t want to be screwed again.

That’s usually how it’s been for me. Not sure I’ve ever seen the light with that beer. Whatever, there are so many other options here.

My quite high rating of 90 minute is based on a 2004 sample. If I wasn’t too lazy to rerate I’m quite sure I’d lower it to mid or upper 3s. It has bent itself quite malty the last few years IMO. Don’t get me wrong I still enjoy it but not as much as I once did. 5/17/2008 2:33:54 AM

i had it on tap recently and it tasted like brown sugar. no hops at all. i wonder if the long trip from delaware to california hurt it at all. 5/17/2008 3:53:45 AM

They date there bottles. I always make sure it is less then 3 months old when I buy it and I prefer it to be less than 2 months old. 5/17/2008 7:06:45 AM

As far as bottles go, I think it’s gotta be under a month old to be worthwhile. And if it’s too cold, you’ll get no hops in the nose at all. I’d let the bottle warm for no less than 30 minutes outside of the fridge.

If that’s all good, then the beer should still be decent enough. It’s not gonna hit you like a west coast IIPA, but it would be unfair to call it "un-hoppy."

Jan Primus 160:2 Simply put...this beer has become unbearably sweet. 5/17/2008 11:45:54 AM

IMHO, it’s gotta be under one hour old to be worthwhile. And warm the bottle in a microwave on high for no less than 45 minutes...that practically makes it explode with aromatic character. And don’t forget to pour it into a gold-rimmed chalice with a cool logo on the side to really bring out the subtleties underneath the monstrous amount of syrup. If you don’t like it, then obviously YOU JUST CAN’T HANDLE IT! Boo-yaaaa! 5/17/2008 12:04:19 PM
