ack from Vilnius but have a bit of difficulty finding some of the info to be able to add all my ratings.

1)
Brewer search:
Anyone know anything about the beers brewed and sold at
ŠNEKUTIS
?
http://www.alutis.lt/snekutis/polocko.php
http://www.vilnius-life.com/drink/pubs_cafes_details/57-Sneku tis

The beers we tried that were said to be homebrewed for sale on draught at the bar were:
Jovaru Šnekutis 6%
KaimaiŠkas Alus Šnekutis 6%
Šnekutis ’1’ Piniavos Alutis 1990

Should I add Šnekutis as a new brewery?

2)
Brewer search:
We went to two restaurants named "Cili Kaimas" where two beers were sold under the restaurant names.
Restaurant chain website:
http://www.cili.lt/
The beers were called
Cili Kaimo Gyvasis (non filtered)
and
Cili Kaimo Tikrasis

Most other beers I can remember they sold were from Svyturys brewery.

Any plans on if this is just label beers, and if so which ones?

3)
Beer or no beer?
I saw some stuff called "Giro" sold on draught at several places, some sort of malt based possibly non-alcoholic drink.
It tasted very much as the German Maltzbier.
Anyone knows if this is the case, or is it just sweet childrens drinks?

4)
Info on beer and brewer:
We purchased a bottled beer from brewery
UAB "Piniavos Alutis"
Eglyno g. 4, Piniavos k, PaneveŽio raj.
http://www.businesslithuania.lt/en/directory/companies/49758< /A>
The GTN was: 4 779021 830113
The name of the beer was
Stačias Labai Stiprus Alus Nepasterizuotas Gyvas Alus
It was labeled 12.0% and the label had 2.0 liter marked, though the plastic PET seemed to hold about 1 liter

Any thoughts on where to find more info, preferably in English?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

cheers!

As for question 3, could it be kvass? A lot of it available in neighbouring Latvia, occationally on draft. 5/6/2008 2:29:26 AM

Not sure myself, anyone else?

The two I tried were murky brownish and rather sugary sweet, much like a beer that hasn’t been allowed to ferment very long before stopping fermentation.

They did laugh at us when trying to order it, guess they don’t believe men should drink it wink

1)
Šnekutis is the guy behind one of the best beer bars I’ve been to, up in Pasvalys!! He used to have his own brewery, but due to financial probelms (I believe) he stopped brewing.
Try emailing the guy behind alutis.lt at geras@alutis.lt and ask him - I’m sure he will know.

3) Gira = kvass.

4) UAB "Piniavos Alutis":

It seems to be located in the beer county up northm so it is very likely to be a microbrewery. If they ever bottle it is in big PET bottles.
Some little info is available at:
http://www.businesslithuania.lt/en/directory/companies/49758< /A>

cheers!

With respect to question 1, I’m pretty sure he told us he would like to start brewing again someday. Perhaps 4 years later that day has arrived.

That said, Jovaru is its own brewery just outside Pakruojis (Vidmantis stays there a lot):

http://www.ratebeer.com/brewers/alaus-darykla-jovaru/4950/

Piniavos is also a brewer name, obviously.

Kaimaiskas is not listed in the alutis.lt brewery listings.

To me if Snekutis didn’t have any brewing equipment on site, these beers may be made by other breweries for that bar.

Incidentally, am I to believe that Snekutis is in Vilnius? That’s great for beer travellers, but I wonder what happened to the place in Pasvalys.

With respect to #2, that is not listed on alutis.lt which would lead me to believe it is not a brewery of any sort. But worth asking them directly.

With respect to #3, gira AFAIK doesn’t ever have alcohol. Per and I had to delete a really good one we had from the database because of this.

There is one in the db, but that’s going to have to be deleted, too, by the looks of it.

1)
I’ll try and get some info that way thumbs up

3)
Ah, I’m guessing (also after the comments from Oakes) they are not to be put in here then.

4)
I’ll try finding more info on this one as well.

Cheers, and thanks!
cheers!

Regarding Snekutis:
He himself was not around any of the two visits we made.
But on the other visit his daughter was there working, she was the one that told us the beers were home made.
As of her, the place was run as a family business by Snekutis himself, his wife, and his son and daughter.

They seemed to have two places in Vilnius, one of which was closed for renovations or something. We only visited the one on Polocko.

There was no visible brewing equipment around and I doubt they had place for anything larger then a smaller home brewiery in the back.

I can very much recommend a visit though, very very cheap and good food. Quite a few draught beers, none of which I saw in any other pub or bar in Vilnius, also some nice bottled beers.

I’ll try contacting the guy running alutis.lt and see if he can sort some of this stuff out.

I’ll leave the giro where they are in the book and out of the site, was still nice trying them, even though quite a bit too sweet fr me.

Cheers!

As for no.2 I’ve found an article that most likely indicates that they’re brewed by the "Kalnapilis-Tauro" group.

Soo... you should probably dump them under Kalnapilis.

But you think they are actually brewed for the restaurant chain, and not just label beers?

Anyways, I’ll add them there, if they turn out to be label beers I guess it’s good to have an alias for them anyways.

Thanks!
cheers!

I might be wrong though...

There’s an article that might be putting them with Vilkmerges... damn

http://www.vtv.lt/naujienos/ekonomika/pasirode-naujasis-cili- alus.html
http://vz.lt/Default2.aspx?ArticleID=9a181a6f-07ad-4583-b723- fab0c4ece919

It might be that one is brewed by Vilkmerges, the other by Kalnapilis.

Ugh.

Ok, after reading some more articles, I’m pretty sure that the Tikrasis (a 5.4% lager with Saaz) is brewed by Kalnapilis (or Tauro, but probably Kalnapilis) and that the Gyvasis is a Vilkmerges beer.
