Packing tips....chime in please if you have any tips.
LOTS AND LOTS of broken bottle reports lately. Check out the Secret Santa thread.
I am likely placing a hex on myself for saying this but.....
I have had one broken bottle in over 100 trades, so i am either VERY lucky or know how to pack damn well, or both.
Here is my tip:
Pack in one of two ways either:
METHOD A. A styro shipper..ie the type the online beer stores ship wine/beer in. Be sure to place some padding around each beer for extra protection. THIS IS VITAL...
METHOD B. Wrap EACH and EVERY bottle in a separate sheet of bubble wrap....not newspaper, or packing paper, but i bubble wrap. yes it costs more, but it is worth the extra protection.
Pack these in a small box, with either packing peanuts or packing material between each bottle, and between each layer of bottles. Whatever it takes to keep the bottles from smacking into each other.
Seal the box.
Pack this box inside a larger box with either packing peanuts or packing paper between the two boxes so that they are neither too loose or two tight....
This may seem like overkill, but like i said, i have had one bottle break out of about 500..and that was because the carrier backed over it with their truck..the other 7 bottles were fine though...so the method works...
Anyways, if you have any hints to add please do so.
Please keep in mind that overkill beats the hell out of reshipping all that beer over again if it gets busted/ruined.

Is it right to assume that the want list gets top priority?
I only ask because I don’t want someone to get multiples of beers that may be available to many others, just not where the person receiving resides.
Or maybe that’s not a bad thing. But looking at kenb’s want list, I see Old Chub and was thinking that he might get 8 cans of one beer rather than variety from across the country.
I’m probably overthinking this.

Yeah, it’s probably inevitable that people will receive multiples of some beers, especially those that are widely distributed (outside of the state of the recipient I guess). But at least they will be getting multiples of beers that they want!

Just a heads up for everyone. If you use a stryo, don’t make it obvious that it is a styro. Fedex has been opening more boxes lately that look like they might be wine.

Other than closing the flaps tightly and covering the visible styrofoam, how can you conceal the styrofoam? That stuff squeaks!

Unless someone has stated something differently on the address list you each got, then priority is:
1. Good beers available only locally in your area.
2. Good beers available only regionally in your area.
3. Beers from their wantlist.
4. Beers very highly rated by them that are not REAL easy to obtain (email them and ok this with them first though)
So hopefully i won’t get 8 cans of old chub lol....one would be ok though ;)

Excellent, that’s what I was going for, glad to get more confirmation. I’ll seek out different beers for you.
