ey everyone thanks for the great reviews I have been reading them for a long time now finally decided to join the site. I really have developed a taste for good beer now that I have been out of college for awhile and I’m getting into the various aspects but one thing I can’t get into is the smell of beer.
I don’t know if it is too many mornings waking up in the basement after a house party with my face in a puddle of Busch Light or what but even with a good quality beer that I love I don’t like smelling it- which leads to my problem of not liking beer out of a glass.

Anyone else enjoy beer strictly out of the bottle? I know I miss out on color/head/smell etc... but in the glass I just don’t like my nose being right there up against the beer as I drink it- there have been a few exceptions but very few. confused

It’s weird. I prefer glass over bottle, glass over can, but can over bottle. To each their own. However, certain glasses are designed to enhance aromas. I’d look into and give it a serious shot. There’s a beer out there that you want to dive your nose into, there’s gotta be hmmm... 11/6/2009 2:27:57 PM

Except in emergency, beer from the bottle is akin to water from the toilet. nyat nyat! 11/6/2009 2:28:25 PM

Just as you "got over" the flavors of crap beer, you will get over the aroma too. Keep giving it a shot and you’ll be sniffing with the best of them. 11/6/2009 2:32:36 PM

Since aromas contribute a lot to my taste then I have to stick to drinking beer out of a glass. 11/6/2009 2:52:05 PM

Once you try one of those great IPA’s or imperial stouts you will come around...some of them just smell like pure heaven 11/6/2009 3:03:08 PM

As I was getting into beer, I really found that my tastes evolved rather rapidly. For a while I didn’t like Belgian beers or wheat beers, but I just kept trying them and eventually familiarized myself with the flavors and profiles and nuances and such. If you like the flavor, eventually the aroma is going to have to follow. Just keep trying beers and it will pick up eventually. thumbs up 11/6/2009 3:12:14 PM

Tuneman07 :0 Its funny you mention IPA as that was the exception I was thinking of. I remember trying an IPA a few years back and being disgusted by it but it has over the last 6 months or so become my favorite type and the only kind I like the smell of. Hops is just a great smell IMO. I am going to push myself to try and enjoy the smell or at least get used to it at first so I’m going with a glass from now on. Wish me luck..... 11/6/2009 4:23:10 PM

You’ll get use to it, especially if you drink beer on tap!

I tried to imagine drinking a good beer strictly from the bottle but can’t............Last time I tried, I did a side by side comparison of 1 beer in a bottle and glass.....didn’t seem like the same beer.....very different.... 11/6/2009 9:49:04 PM

On tap it’s usually so cold the aroma is minimized. So maybe if you chill your beers more, you can ease into aromas as they warm.
