Anyone around? This forum seems pretty quiet :) Still working on itinerary but hope to hit a good chunk of the country.

Cheers,
Jeremy

Once I get back to DC I’ll give you some contact info, but you can start with a beermail to Jimthechap (real name Jonno) in Christchurch. He’s the most active NZ rater.

Any more news on this? Also you do realise that May is the almost the start of winter?

We arrive May 5th and head home June 1. Haven’t booked anything in between yet. We need to get on that! My wife is a college professor so it was either May or July-August that we could get the time off this year.

Hoping to go to the rugby match in Dunedin May 13 (I think,)

I’m in Auckland which is where you will most likely fly in. Are you looking to hire a car and travel? And it is a long way(and cold)) to Dunedin!

I went in August, which NZers warned me was the dead of winter. That meant that I sometimes had to wear a light jacket at night as temps plummeted to the 50s F (10s C). Cold is a relative thing, I guess, but most Americans (except those from Florida or Southern California) would probably survive the dreaded NZ winters.

Is the purpose of the trip to drink beer or to enjoy the scenery? There are a few locations on your trip that will be barren wastelands for good beer but are great locations to visit.

It’s definitely more of a "see New Zealand" trip. The beer is secondary but we have found plenty of potential beer stops (where they are available).
