There's an answer to my qu in site news, but still don't quite understand!

Let me know if this makes sense...

"Personal", which will be called "Ticks" by the end of this week, are ratings with under 75 characters. These are most likely beers rated with the official RateBeer Mobile App whereby one taps on a rating but does not leave any comments.

The current push is to migrate ticks into ratings but separate them so that you can view your ticks and ratings separately.

* Users will only be allowed one tick OR rating per beer

* Users may add or delete comments to easily create a tick from a rating or a rating from a tick

* Ticks = ratings with fewer than 75 characters

Because some people have more than one tick per beer or have ticks for beers for which they already have a rating, all ticks, except those for beers that have been rated, will be copied over in the BeerRating table which will hold both rates and ticks, and also left in the BeerTick table. In cases where users have more than one tick for a beer but have no rating, the tick scores will be averaged and the earliest tick date will be transferred as the new tick.

Old ticks will be deprecated and no longer accessible in a year.
