espite my best efforts to clarify as much as possible in the other thread from this morning ("Major RBSG Announcement"), I evidently didn’t make myself quite as clear as I had hoped. I’ve gotten this same question multiple times:

Q: Are we required to take the bus for all three days, or can we sign up for just one or two FULL days?

A: You can sign up for any one, two, or all three days, but any day you sign up to has to be the full $30 for the entire day. So what I meant by, "We cannot offer partial days," was that you cannot, for instance, pay only $15 for only half of the bus service on one of the days. You either have to pay the entire $30 for any of the whole days, or you have to plan your own transportation for that day. So, again, please let me know when you send payment which day(s) it is supposed to cover for your transportation, if relevant.

Thanks to those of you who have directed questions to me so far in private beermails, and to those of you who have already signed up and paid. Let’s try to keep this thread clean of much back-and-forth discussion, but if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please forward them to me privately via beermail. I’ll do my best to address them as soon as possible in this thread, because chances are if YOU are not clear on something, there are other people out there who are confused about it as well.

Q: I understand that there are "NO partial days" as far as transportation is concerned, but can I still pay for and partake in the activities of a given day WITHOUT paying the transportation amount for that day, if I have transportation of my own?

A: Yes, of course. This will mostly apply to locals, for sure. But some ambitious out-of-towners will also undoubtedly have rental cars for some portion of their trip. So if, for example, you live down the street from Port Brewing/Lost Abbey and you’re going to walk there on Saturday morning, you should feel free to pay only the $10 amount for the visit to Lost Abbey, which includes lunch.

HOWEVER, and this is important. . . If you also want to partake in any other activities at other locations throughout the weekend (like things that DON’T have fees attached), please beermail me to let me know which events you will attend, or attach a note with your payment. Although the financial risks are obviously a moot point for those activities, we would still like to get a good head count for each event and each day, so we can let our gracious hosts know what sort of crowds they can expect.

So this also applies even to any locals (or others) who will not being paying for ANYTHING AT ALL-- meaning you’re not going to be at Lost Abbey and you’re not eating lunch at Stone, and you’re going to take care of your own transportation commitments for the weekend. PLEASE BEERMAIL ME TO LET ME KNOW YOUR PLANS. Let me know which specific activities you intend to participate in (and provide your real name and the names of any other folks who will be joining you), and everything will run that much smoother for us. If you DON’T beermail me to let me know of your intentions, I can’t promise that there will be room for you in the fold.

$60.00 on the way to you, Chris. hopscotch and Tinkerbell will be attending all events via their rental car (actually it’s a Hummer with a V-8, twin turbo engine and Harp baby seal leather seats... because we hate Earth). wink

Q: On Saturday morning, if the bus is going to start at Hotel Circle and then go to O’Brien’s (for a second pick-up spot, but ALSO for a *drop-off spot* so that those who left their cars near O’Brien’s on Friday afternoon could retrieve them before heading up north), how are the people who are driving their cars going to get to Lost Abbey? Do we have to drive our cars TO Lost Abbey, or could we go drop them off in Carlsbad??

A: I don’t even know yet how many people will fall under this specific scenario (and they’re mostly locals, I’d imagine), but it’s come up a couple of times already. Here’s a simple and elegant solution-- we’ll try to see that after the bus drops off the main group at Lost Abbey, they then go to the Motel 6 in Carlsbad (say, by around 12:30) to pick up the folks there who have just driven up from O’Brien’s. That should give time for most to check into their hotels (if the hotels will allow early check-in, but you’re on your own for that), and then the bus could take that group over to Lost Abbey by around 1:00 PM. So those folks can still get a good amount of time at the Lost Abbey and can still take advantage of the bus transportation to avoid driving after drinking.

Q: Will the bus have room for luggage (and beer-- lots and lots of beer)????

A: This is a big consideration, for sure, and not one that we have overlooked. We’re trying to make sure there is room for luggage (and, obviously, beer). Obviously, we don’t have the specific bus reserved yet, but we’ll do our best to take care of it one way or another. Worst-case scenario-- we might have someone (probably yours truly) tail the bus in a big-ass van or something like that to take only luggage and beer. But I don’t want to do that, and I’m sure nobody else does either. So this is one of the details that will finally be worked out once the reservation is made. For now, all I can say is that we have it in our sights.

A: NO! Keep ’em coming! Please PayPal money to my account by tomorrow (Friday, AugustJuly 18th), if possible (e-mail: chrisquiroga@yahoo.com). We’re going to start making transportation commitments based on the numbers we have for tomorrow, but there’s still some chance you can sign up after that (only if seats are still open, of course). We’ll just have to address those late sign-ups on a case-by-case basis. PLEASE SIGN UP AND SEND MONEY ON TIME!

Q: Waaa waaaa! I missed the deadline because RateBeer was offline and I didn’t bother to sign up or pay money during the first 11 days of sign-ups! Waaa waaaaaaah! Can I still sign up for the bus and gatherings? Waah!!!!

A: Sure. We’re extending the deadline until Sunday of this week (so like, tomorrow). But we’re also going to start looking into bus accommodations IMMEDIATELY (like, right now) based on the numbers we have so far. So hurry your asses up. And it’s more important than ever that you get your payments and sign-ups in IMMEDIATELY (like, right now). So we’ll continue to take sign-ups and payments through Sunday, and we won’t book anything solid until at least Monday, but any late payments or sign-ups beyond that will be accepted ONLY on a case-by-case basis, and as individual seats on the buses permit. Delay at your own risk.
