That was the first thing that came to my mind. Besides you’ll save money on airfare that way and there are usually a good number of people willing to split hotel rooms as well. I think every married person should get at least one "personal weekend" a year that doesn’t have to involve your spouse. Besides RBSGs tend to be filled with beer events, such that there isn’t much free time to be doing non-beer related stuff with a spouse anyway. Non beer-drinking spouses do make for good designated drivers, but I don’t think that’ll be necessary for this RBSG.
Have your wife watch the kids the weekend of RBSG and tell her she can take a trip on her own to visit family or friends or sightsee or whatever another weekend and you’ll watch the kids then.

In theory, yes. But she will make me pay one way or another.
Hopefully we get to drink some brew next month while I’m in DC.

Thanks for the suggestions!
I will have to weigh my options and run them by her. See if any works.

I’ll probably echo some of what has been covered already, but I can empathize with people thinking of attending with younger kids. My wife and I travel frequently for beer related stuff and our kids are quite frequently along with us. We both love beer and can’t always line up sitters, especially if its for a few days.
I asked my wife to help with some stuff to do in GR for families with kids and we came up with a few things.
First is John Ball Park Zoo, it’s a pretty cool zoo with a decent park right out in front of it, you can spend quite a bit of time there during a day.http://www.johnballzoosociety.org/
Next is the GR Children’s museum. I haven’t been, but my wife and kids have been and spent an afternoon there, lots of interactive exhibit stuff.http://www.grcm.org/
Also, the Frederick Meijer Gardens is pretty cool on a nice day. It is a huge park essentially with all sorts of sculptures on display outside. They do have a kids garden area and its a good place to bring a packed lunch from a local deli for a picnic meal.http://www.meijergardens.org/
There is a fair amount of shopping, both in downtown GR and also in some of the nearby lakeshore communities, especially Holland and Saugatuck, but also Grand Haven. And if you choose to head towards the lakeshore towns, there are a lot of other activities.
There is Michigan Adventure which is an amusement park with roller coasters and a pretty cool water park in Muskegon.http://www.miadventure.com/
A bunch of these things will require transportation, so if you would fly in, you ’d have to rent a car, but I’d recommend this anyway if you’re bringing the family and making it more of a vacation. If the wife has freedom to explore and get out she’ll be much happier while you’re gone drinking. If you’re driving in, then you’re set anyway.
