Every year there is one of these threads. I would like to see it on the East Coast this year for sure. Asheville would be very cool, there is enough great food and Awesome breweries and bars to keep everyone entertained. It’s also in a beautiful location and has enough other things to do within a half an hour drive.

But than again, I would also be up for Philly, have not ever been there and after watching Man VS Food when he was there, I would go just for the food alone, the beer is a great perk as well.

NYC, would really not be my thing. I would think it would be too spread out to have a good time and make it all work on a time schedule.

Just a suggestion after having been all over there last week doing some beer touring - base the RBSG in Grand Rapids. It’s a great town (best I visited both food and beer-wise), a reasonable distance for flying in and driving from either Chicago or Detroit and you’ve got Founder’s and Hopcat as a base to get started. From there, you could do a day bus trip and hit other spots and/or arrange with some of the further away places to send stuff to HopCat.

I’ll be curious to see what you guys put together. Had a great time last week!

That’s a pretty good shell of the plan with the base out of Grand Rapids and branch out from there on bus trips. There are a ton of options of what to do, just need to figure which will work out best. There will be some nice surprises too. cheers!

Yeah, Grand Rapids really stood out for me and I went pretty much everywhere. After having talked to you, I was keeping RBSG in the back of my mind as I traveled around and GR seemed like a great base of operations. The biggest thing is to not try to do too much, especially with how spread out the breweries are in Michigan. Hit the high points that are withing striking distance and then maybe arrange to have beers sent from other breweries to Hopcat. Then again, HopCat gets most everyone’s stuff anyway. They’re a world class beer bar and after hanging with those guys for several days, I know they’d be glad to help/host/whatever. Same thing with Founders. Great facilities, beer and people.

yeah, I would be convinced. ANd if brweries are hurting there, this could be a small contribution, even though by then it may be too late.

Ok, so it’s not the big city feel, but how about michigan? We might not be as vocal on the message boards as some of the other cities locals, but there is plenty of good beer to be had and you could probably find pretty cheap accomodations and plane tickets. By that time there will be a Jolly Pumpkin Cafe in Ann Arbor and a brew pub at the brewery.

A nice trip across the state would yield Kuhnhenn, Slows BBQ, Ashleys bar in Ann Arbor, Jolly Pumpkin Cafe, Jolly Pumpkin Brewpub and brewery, Dark Horse, Arcadia, Bells, The Livery, New Holland, Founders and Hopcat (in Grand Rapids), just to name a few. There, convinced?

Having just spent some time in Michigan on a beer crawl, this could be an epic RBSG. 8/19/2009 6:37:10 PM

Yeah, I was sorry I missed you guys. I talked to Jeff and he said he was hanging out with you and the Orlando crew. I was in one part of the state and you guys were in another. Oh well, Michigan was definitely fun with plenty of good beer to be had. Bell’s was kinda disappointing in my book, though. But yeah, a well-planned RBSG there could be a lot of fun. Transportation is going to be the only hitch with all the breweries so spread out, though.
