n about a month I have to drive to Valdosta, GA from Tallahassee, FL to pick up my fiancee at the airport. Anything good there or on the way that is cause for a pause? Stores? Brewpubs?

No. You will barely even find a store of any kind on that ride.

In Quitman, Ga. there is a quickie mart type store that always seems to have some off the wall Malt Liquor - have picked up a few ratings there - this one comes to mind:

Oh boy. I’m not sure if I’m to the point where I grab random 40s just for the numbers... there’s so much else out there to try.
Oh, screw it, 40s - here I come.

In Thomasville I suggest stopping at Liams Restuarant downtown. The food is good and they have craft beer and small production wines, but it is pricey. I typically stop in for a cheese plate(they have a great cheese selection) and see what beers they have, it rotates sometimes it is better than others. Jonahs next door has really good food but they don’t serve alcohol, the food is good enough for me to ignore that. I also suggest stopping in at the Sweet Grass Dairy gift shop, their cheese is awesome and goes great with beer.
In Valdosta, 5 point liquors is the place to go for beer. Warehouse Liquors is pretty good as well but 5 Points Liquor is better in my opinion. Charley O’Corleys has the best beer selection for any bar around there, but it is more of a college bar so don’t expect anything worldclass.
Only other tip is slow down in Quitman, that place is a speed trap.

Thomasville is a funny little place when it come to beer. You would guess it would only be BMC around there but the liquor store has a good selection (valdosta is better so just wait for that one), Liam’s that carries only craft beer and sometimes does beer and cheese pairings, and the Dairy sells craft beer in the gift shop and will talk to you about pairing with beer as well as wine. The girl in the dairy when I stopped by, immediately knew about cigar city when she saw my hat. For a south GA town you can still easily get your beer fix locally.

Except for Sundays. Just something to keep in mind for the trip, if you are in GA on Sunday there are no sales at all.
