We used to have Europeans complaining about the cost of premium membership. That hasn’t happened in a while.

The weak dollar isn’t going to help anyone in the long term. Even as it increases our exports, the dollar is worth less and less as inflation is also creeping up at the same time. If we didn’t care a huge trade deficit, then a weak dollar would be more helpful.
As it relates to imports, yes it stinks, especially for these wonderful Spanish and French red wines that are ramping up the price scale. Guess we all need to find local US-produced goods for a better buy for the dollar. At least they haven’t moved our craft beer industry to Asia.

Thanks, for your empathy Harry!
It’s just another sign of the languishing times, the decline of American Exceptionalism.
Since the government is simply printing out more money as fast as they need it, the U.S. dollar is becoming more worhtless every day.
They quit keeping track of the US$ money that is actually in circulation. Its now a fiat currency, backed by nothing. Look how the US$ has stood against something of real value, gold for instance.
I predict the dollar will go away and be replaced by a unit good in all american countries, not just the U.S. (the Amero?)
My wife is right, why am I saving? It will all be worthless in the near future if our elected officials don’t do something about it..

This topic seem to be getting more OT-M than Beer/Site news, but anyway I’ve talked to a couple brewers who point to the weak dollar as a reason for the hop shortage. Euro’s swopping in and buying hops.
The way it’s affecting me is by limiting my travels, A few years ago I’d think nothing of driving 100 miles to go to a brewpub for lunch, now I usually stay in my local area.

Try selling imported cheeses these days. Everything is now a spot market quote.

Well for me it has changed a lot of my beer rating progress. As you might or might not know I work for Uncle Sam, presently stationed in Germany. It seems worse when you are paid in Dollars, but all your bills are in Euro. The days of me going and dropping 200€ on beer at a whim is over. Now I plan and budget out my shopping more over periods. In fact, I haven’t bought beer since mid-Apr here in Europe and I’m getting low in my beer closet. What is worse is the crappy macros on base are more expensive then ever, its cheaper to by cases of imports sold on base. Just my .02¢ or .012€!
