Not in the fest, but Spoons are promoting ’Lucky Lager’, not the Labatt version, but apparently one brewed in China by Richard Adamson of Barons.

Any ideas if this is really a new beer or just a rebranding of Tsingtao? Thought I’d check before parting with £2-20.

This?

Nifty bottle, but not Chinese - Australian, apparently.

Lucky is in fact made in China by Cheerday in Qiandaohu, one of the world’s finest breweries according to Richard Adamson’s article introducing his product in the latest Wetherspoon’s News magazine. After aquiring the brand and it’s distinctive bottle, Richard says that he perfected the recipe with the brewing team in China. It now contains only water, rice, yeast and Quingdao Chinese hops. The resulting beer "is defined by it’s ingredients with low bitterness and a really light malt flavour." (?!!)
I found the beer such a joke that I couldn’t be arsed contacting RB admin to amend the brewery listing. If Barons want to pass off a kind of force carbonated watered down sake as a premium beer, then they deserve to have the resulting ratings attributed to them directly. How this drink might have tasted before Barons ’perfected’ the recipe, I shudder to think!
However Hughie, it is worth parting with a couple of quid as the bottle makes a splendid vase! If you can stomach the contents, it puts into perspective how good the UK’s supposedly ’dull’ regional ales really are in the big scheme of things. China has apparently been the world’s largest beer producer since 2002.

Any of the Admins know about the Fairport 5.

One of the wadworths staff told me it was a rebadge at Cropredy this year, so i didnt have it.

but i cant remember what or see anything too obvious.

No matter what it is it sold out really fast in my Local one this weekend

That’s another tricky one, it sounds very similar to the Wadsworths beer at the previous Festival. It’s not been out yet down our way.

As you can see, the Guest Brewer at Shepherd Neames is doing very well, rightly so, followed by the Leeds Gathering Storm. But there are some very dull beers near the bottom.

Keep up the ratings and I’ll re do it at the end of the Festival.

Brilliant work, Glen. I’d just been thinking what a good idea it would be to have a running score...

I have to say I am really enjoying this Festival. Unlike in former years my local JDW seems to be ensuring a swift turnover of beers, and in retirement I am discovering the pleasures of a mid morning breakfast meal deal.

Today I had Caledonian Double Dark, Bath Hefeweizen, and Toshi’s Amber. Not perhaps the world’s very finest beers, but the contrast between the three styles was fascinating and thought-provoking. Thank you, Mr Weatherspoon.
