What is a ’session beer’?

Stonch, that’s an awesome post. Thanks. I’m still in the early stages of beer fascination and have only recently discovered the Belgian Trappiste beers in earnest. I still find those beers a real treat. But I know what you mean about having a few and living to tell the tale. That is a special kind of beer. What’s your favourite session beer?

St Peter’s Mild, simply because it’s always available from the cask at my local pub. It’s a good beer and five pints of it leaves me merry but not pished, and allows me to work in the morning!
