y wife and I are in Ireland presently and enjoying ourselves. So far we have had the general Irish fare of Guinness, Kilkenny, Beamish, and Smithwicks. We are leaving on Saturday, 07 November; are there any breweries we should go visit? We will be back in the Dublin area on 14 Novemeber also, but will be near Trinity College. Any ideas where to go?
We’ll be in Scotland from 07 November until 14 November in the Inverness area. We plan on going to a few scotch whiskey distilleries (if they are open), but I’m interested if there are any breweries or brewpubs that would need a visit. Would appreciate any possible sites we could go visit.
Also, any good food in the suggestions (bar menu/restaurant/etc)?

This place is reckoned to be pretty good. http://www.theanderson.co.uk/
In Inverness itself, the Blackfriars is usually regarded as the best pub for beer range.
Haven’t been to either myself though.
I think most distilleries will be open for visits. Plenty of web resources for distillery visits that a quick search will reveal. Be aware, however, that it is rarely cheaper to buy whisky from the distillery shop than anywhere else, and frequently more expensive. The Gordon & MacPhail shop in Elgin is also an incredible place to visit and a veritable Aladdin’s cave for whisky enthusiasts.

Deeside is in this area (Aberdeen). Not very well known, but I was impressed by them.

When back in Dublin, be sure to try the Bull and Castle, best beer pub in town. Visit the Porterhouse as well (several locations, Central is very close to where you’ll be staying.)
You’ll find them in the places section.

I recently spend a month in Scotland - some amazing country out there. Inverness is a great stop. If you have a car you can make the trek to Brew Dog, but it’s a production only facility and you’ll certainly want to make arrangements ahead of time before going. Personally, I’d head down to Dufftown and soak in the single malts.
Top Places:
The Grouse Inn - Not far from Dufftown, impressive old place. The owner there is a sweet old woman that knows more about whisky than most pros.
Craigellachie Inn / Highlander in Craigellachie (10 mins from Dufftown) - You won’t find better malts anywhere in the world than this block. Craigellachie is a bit more upscale and suave, but you’ll feel special sitting in a chair that was certainly occupied by Michael Jackson. Highlander is almost as impressive.
The Highlander has a couple of beer engines that always seemed to have great beer, made regionally. I’d be satisfied just sitting there for a week. I also enjoyed the food I had at Highlander.
One of my favorite meals was at Taste of Speyside in Dufftown. Awesome food, great drinks and the owner/chef is absolutely delightful.
One of the best bottled beer selections I saw in Scotland was the bottle shop smack in the middle of Dufftown. Lots of Scottish beer there - sorry, don’t remember name, but it’s next to the clock tower.
