Metallica's Lars Ulrich Buys RateBeer.com

April 1, 2009

Denmark Responds

Representatives of Danske Ølentusiaster (ale.dk) were asked what Lars Ulrich purchasing ratebeer.com would mean for craft beer in Denmark. "We're naturally very pleased that Mr. Ulrich has chosen to promote Danish beers in such a meaningful way," said Rie Sørensen. "This will most likely have a greater impact on the country's beverages market than Metallica has ever had on the music scene. After all, most of us here prefer Aqua."

"Napster baad. Beer goood."
- Lars Ulrich

(København, DANMARK) Lars Ulrich, Danish drummer for the metal band Metallica, stunned the beverage world today with his purchase of Ratebeer.com.

Says Ulrich, "Although many think that music is my main passion; it no longer is. What really gets me going is beer. Rocking, loud BEER. Actually, this was true long before Metallica. And what could better satisfy my passion for both awesome brew and my tech cred more than buying the web’s #1 beer reviewing site, ratebeer.com?"

Before a press conference Ulrich answered several questions about the band and their involvement, which is essentially nill. "What piqued my interest was Ratebeer’s huge presence in both the U.S. and in my native country of Denmark. Sad but true... my band mates just don't get it. Danes produce the best beer in the world. This is my thing."

Ulrich also confirmed rumors that in forthcoming Metallica shows, only local microbrews will be available for sale at the venues. Sources in Copenhagen have confirmed that Mikkeller’s beer will be available at Metallica’s shows there. At Metallica’s shows at Petco Park in September, Arrogant Bastard and Ruination from Stone Brewing of Escondido, CA will be on tap. Stone CEO Greg Koch will perform a guest solo w/ the band.

To questions about how he might run a beer site, Ulrich responded that he'll be getting help controlling the off topic forums from fellow Scandinavians the Alström brothers, Jason and Todd, of the wonderful site BeerAdvocate.com. Ulrich also plans on starting his own brewery, Sad But Chouffe. He's released a list of offerings slated for release.
