caramel licorice sweet-malt aroma.
flavorful, citrus-sour T1, malty charred T2, chrcl sour-citrus-bitter T3Tf.
predominantly burnt-citrus-seed-bitter flavor. | | | | Fantôme dÉté | 2.1 | 3.69 | nick76 | | | The aroma is sour and slightly cheesy but mostly sweet and floral with a touch of citrus. The appearance is cloudy amber/orange with a medium foamy head. The taste is like the aroma and a bit corked. The palate is smooth. Overall this is to style but not to my liking. | | | | Hitachino Nest XH | 2 | 3.66 | nimbleprop | | | Sampled on tap at Churchkey, Washington D.C. Pours a transparent, amber with a thin, creamy white head. Aroma is Belgian yeast, fruits, pears, apple, candy, a little booze. Flavor takes a sharp turn in the wrong direction. Heavy on the wood, grainy, boozy, a little vanilla, some spice, fingernail polish. There’s this lasting, sharp prick on the tip of your tongue after the beer has washed down. Sort of like you bit on a thorn. Too much other stuff, not enough beer. | | | | Magnum | 3.2 | 1.43 | riversideAK | | | Sweet 12 oz can of malt liquor sent by StFun. Nose is light with corn flakes, light bread, and grass. Really doesn’t smell bad at all. Pours pale golden into my pint glass with a solid fizzy/soapy head that lasts through the whole experience. Corn flakes, mild grainy sweetness, bread, and a soft grassy finish. Fizzy and light with no chemical grossness. Surprisingly solid. This is better than any of Miller’s pale lagers, it’s like malt liquor light. | | | | t Smisje Kerst | 1.2 | 3.49 | Blom | | | Muddy brown with a low head. Smoky aroma, like burned rubber. The flavour is very yeasty with further notes of smoke and a bit of dusty hops. Very unbalanced and quite frankly just bad.
| | | | De Ranke Père Noël | 1.8 | 3.44 | cheapdark | | | After the other deranke stuff I was expecting something quite sour. But I should have looked closer to the label. I see its hoppy. Cloudy pale yellow and smells a bit funky like a lambic. Farmy bitter bite on the first taste. Some sourness. Quite rude after a while and the hops start punching thru and bitterindg my palte. Bandaids, rude crude. Can’t feel much carbonation, if any. Not what I expected. Give me the other Deranks anytime. I guess belgian ale is a catch all style for anything that can’t be plced. | | | | Dark Horse 3 Guy Off the Scale Old Ale | 1.7 | 3.8 | cheapdark | | | At the Pgh RB gathering 12/09. Big strong aroma. Orangy yellow in color. Strong and quite rude. Yes it is big alright. Not much to be enjoyed by a lager lover. You can certainly tell this has been aged, yet there is no milding of this stuff, ruffness lives on. Age has not taken the edge off fer sure. No detectable carbonation. Bottle is one year old. Finsh is alky linger. What else can be said but terribly on style, forget my numbers. | | | | Cigar City Capricho Oscuro (Batch 2) | 1.8 | 3.97 | cheapdark | | | From Beerman6686 at the Pgh RB gathering 12/09, thanks Dan! First let me say that I am not worthy of this beer. I rate by how much I like it and not to scale so blow off my numbers. Smells like a mild imperial stout. laced with some volatile whiskey. Hot alky burn on the intial taste. Whiskey, commencement, way too much for this lager lover. Anise, locrice, perhaps coffee and other dark rude desirable atttributes. Barely any carbonation. Over the top, just like a big beer should. Oily mouth coating finish, overall pretty strong. | | | | Abbaye des Rocs Grand Cru | 1.7 | 4.04 | doboy | | | This scores a 100? My one word was YUCK. I couldn’t drink it. Other tasters included as the Wizard DrBayern, Celticbrew as the Cowardly Lion, Brian the Beer Pimp as the Tin Man, Uncle Tom as the Scarecrow, and the newbies Lawyer Bob and The Boy Wonder Chris as the Munchkins. That leaves me as the Wicked Witch!
It poured a dark brown, cloudy. The lacy head started to disipate. Aroma was nominal. And the taste ended this little experiment. I usually like Brown Ales. | | | | Xbeeriment Little Garage Ale | 1.6 | 3 | MiP | | | Bottle, 4.8%. Plasticky aroma, hint of Brett and some fruity citrus note. Cloudy orange colour. Good stable white head. Plastic flavour. Lemony notes. | | | | Brauerei Hofmann Export | 1.4 | 3.01 | MiP | | | Bottle, 5.2%. Very buttery aroma. Clear dark brown colour. Small stable off-white head. The flavour is also quite buttery, seems a bit more malty and caramelly. Not so good though. | | | | New Glarus Unplugged Bohemian Lager | 1.3 | 3.51 | Fratto | | | Bottle from Cavie. Hazy yellow pour with a spotty white head. Aroma is stale fruit and bad beer. Taste is bland, yet bitter. Grass and grains. Well then. | | | | New Glarus Unplugged Old English Porter | 1.3 | 3.57 | Fratto | | | Bottle from Cavie. Reddish brown pour with a small head. Smells like blackened burned coffee beans and a hint of vinegar. Sour, tart, vinegar, and grapefruit. Coffee aftertaste isn’t too weak to cover the sour vinegar taste. This had better be an infected bottle. | | | | Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout | 1.9 | 3.6 | Toxygen | | (br-btl cm-lbl, "ale brewed with Colombian coffee", 30 IBU, OG=1.076, 22oz, 8.3%)

hops and malt are both noticeable but both unpleasant. | | | | Oettinger Radler | 3.4 | 1.75 | Quinten | | | At an trinkgut in aachen germany, bottle 500ml, golden, only 30 eurocents, medium head, some grain and beer hinds, nice fruits and no acid hinds, very good radler. | | | | Woodchuck Oak Aged Draft Cider | 1 | 3.03 | ericandersnavy | | | bottle thanks to cavie. man was this stuff dreadful. poured gold in appearance with not much head. aroma was that of a stale old dirty diaper and apples. flavor was just wretched......i dont believe i have ever tasted anything this bad. this is much worse than redbridge sorghum beer. i am literally sick to my stomach now and feel like puking this stuff back into the bottle and sending it back to the brewer and telling them that i improved it for them. i would prefer to suck the tongue of an anteater that just ran its tongue up the butt of a dead fat woman who just attempted to run a 5k marathon on a 100 degree day. if you would like to know how i really feel about the beer please BM me as i think i just BM’d in my underwear and have to go clean myself. | | | | Bards Tale Dragons Gold | 0.5 | 2.32 | Toxygen | | (br-btl bk-lbl with wood and a gold dragon, "made from whole grain sorghum", 4.7%)

bad bottle or bad idea? not sure but other raters agree with low rating and weird flavors. | | | | Newcastle Brown Ale | 1.5 | 3.03 | Teege | | | I ordered this at a place that didn’t have anything resembling a decent beer list, but I was getting hot wings, and I’ve got to have some kind of (any kind of) beer with my hot wings. I remembered that I used to enjoy Newcastle Brown Ale in my pre-craft beer drinking days, so I thought I’d give it another shot. Well, it was too light and thin for a brown ale to begin with, but I took a sip anyway, Seriously, I could have been drinking club soda. There is almost no flavor at all. You expect this sort of thing from mass-marketed lagers, but even some of them have more complexity than this. The only reason I gave it any points at all was because at least it didn’t taste bad. It just didn’t taste like anything. Plus, it was cold and wet and that’s what I needed to wash those hot wings down. | | | | ReaperAle Redemption Red Ale | 1.7 | 3.22 | kidmartinek | | | Plum colored in the glass in the lig, brown in the dark. Head is a pathetic 1/8" taupe. Aroma of english malt and hops, kent golding or fuggles? Molasses taste with sugar and a bitter finish. I just don’t dig these styles. | |

and a nice herbal hoppy presence in the aroma. Soft hay and grains greet the tongue, followed by a touch of honeybread and earthy hops right along side it; finish is a bit on the hoppy side. Clean, crisp, but still full of flavor; both malt and hops are strong,
