Does not (at all) smell or taste like an imperial stout. Slightly tinny, a bit tart, and a bit dilute. Not up my alley at all. beerguy101 (3946), Newark, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 7, 2009 Sampled on 12/4/009. Sampled via Dr Bill. This Imperial Stout pours a med dark brown color from a 750ml bottle. Large sized white foamy head. The aroma is chocolate, tart and fruity. A medium bodied Imperial Stout. The malts are chocolate, fruity and tart. The hops are floral. A tart, Belgian Stout. The estery fruitiness are balanced by some big roasty malts and both are whacked by the tartness. There is a touch of wood here, I guess. It’s a weird combination of flavors, but it seems to work somehow. Mouthfeeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly tart. Aroma of fresh oaky dark caramel malt with a touch of light fruity esters. Starts with pretty good fullness with some tart oaky complexity and sweet dark caramel maltiness before a toasty drier bittersweet tannic finish. Pretty unique oaky dark brew. yngwie (5000), Kristiansand, Norway
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Nov 24, 2009 Bottle, 75cl, courtesy of yespr. A deep amber to dark brown beer, topped by a dense, finger-thick beige head leaving lacings. Oak and some sourness on the nose, with roasted, coffee-like scents behind. Maybe this doesn’t sound good, but it was. The flavor too was a bit strange but very nice. A sourish, oaked twist of the coffee and chocolate from the regular Podge beer got company of a bretty touch and a little bitterness. Full-bodied, well-carbonated and smooth mouthfeel. Lasting finish with all things found initially. The sourness is well integrated in the beer and even though I don’t think the barreling adds betterness to the beer, it certainly puts it into another dimesion. 090822 nimbleprop (936), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA
