Strong caramel, fermented fruit, and malt aromas. Taste was very sweet and fruity with caramel, alcohol (brandy), and malt flavors. Vaiz (112), Netherlands
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 15, 2009 Pours a clear ruby red to amber color with a thick light orange head. Aroma is intense sweet malt with fruity notes and... some more sweet malt. Flavor is less extreme and actually quite well balanced. There is this delicate sweetness that starts it all off, followed by a nice subtle bitterness that peeks around the corner. Well in balance and never over the line. Although its body is based primarily on the sweet malts it never gets boring. deyholla (724), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 13, 2009 Bottle. Poured a dark reddish amber with a quickly dissipating light brown head. Aroma was full of sweet barley giving it a cereal and caramel flavor. Flavor was quite sweet with a grainy flavor as well as some caramel. Nice and thick on the tongue. alobar (1030), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 11, 2009 Recently purchased bottle. Pour is clear ruby red with a smallish beige head. Aroma has notable hops, lots of sugar, marshmallow, light malt, and faint cognac. Flavor is hoppy up front. Then a cloying sweetness kicks in that I am not a fan of. There is also a bit of oxidation present as well. I just bought this bottle and there was no indication that it was a vintage bottle. The finish is a sweet mess with light alcohol and light black pepper. I have had this beer before and I remember liking it. Maybe this was an off bottle JanEric (199), Meppel, Netherlands
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 9, 2009 Dark amber coloured, not that dark as some other barley wines (like hertog jan grand prestige), small off-white head.NIce floating bubbles in the glass. Aroma si fresh, fruity (berries, a bit cherries or cassis-ike). Taste is bitter, hoppy, smooth, a bit fruity, long hoppy inish, with some herbs. Nice!

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 5, 2009 12 oz. bottle. A cold icy day calls for a barleywine selection. Pours a slightly murky deep red brown, with grey-beige head. Smells of caramel, malt, vanillia, slight notes of clove / banana fruit, raw sweetness. Taste is similar but earthier. Finishes with alcohol on breath. My nose is pretty congested right now so maybe i missed a couple of things here but overall pretty good.
