Commercial Description:
Bottle: pasteurised. Bottled by Marston’s.
Combined Harvest is a unique combination of brewing worts, or extracts from a variety of cereals. Most premium ales are brewed only using malted barley, but this multigrained beer has a unique multigrain blend of malted barley, oats, rye and wheat. Grainy tasting with a delightful floral start and finish.

1 pint, 0.9 fl oz. bottle at Cost Plus in Redding, CA. Pours a medium golden color. Bouquet: You can really smell the oats in this one- it also has the classic "Bateman’s diacetyl" bouquet. Taste: mild hoppiness, breadiness with a slight tartness. Palate / finish: clean maltiness at the back of the tongue.

500ml bottle from the local store near my dad’s place in Norwich, drunk 25th Dec 09. Pours a very clear amber with a little bit of white head. As expected, grainy aroma and flavour. Errs towards sweet rather than biting bitterness but overall it’s reasonably balanced and drinkable. Some warmth too. Needs something more to make it memorable though.

500. Pours a crystal clear dark gold with a towering, fluffy platinum blond head. Big blended nose, as one might suspect, of cookie dough, rye bread, and, unfortunately, a bit of fusel. Creamy medium body with mild carb. Nutty, toasty, rue, doughy mid-palate. Not unpleasant. Served this one to relative acclaim at SIB this year. Not sure if this bottle is 5 months older, or what, but this isn’t quite as tasty as that experience might have suggested.

500ml bottle. Deep golden body, short-lived white foam. Rather rich malty aroma; caramel, dense grain bread, biscuit, cereals and skunk. Some citrusy hops are intergrated. Reasonably lean body, carbonation quite low, oily texture spurred on by rye and oats. Complex grainy malts on the body, somehow reminisant of scotch whisky malt at times without the smokiness. Caramel malt in there too, hand-in-hand with lemon/orange citrus hop zest. Finishes moderately bitter, on the sweet side, with a doughy note. Interesting beer, the texture and malt profile is certainly quite unique and adds to the overall character, but it’s a bit unexciting otherwise.

Grain and meringue nose. Clear amber, no head. Very beery. A little metallic, grainy, not hoppy, nothing really jumps out at you. Creamy meringue finish. Clean, but a little watery. Easy to drink, but blah.

11/04/2009: Bateman’s Combined Harvest... Aroma: Faint apple/pear fruit; obvious oxidation. Appearance: Nice, clear, coppery color with a frothy off-white crown. Flavor: Dry and cardboard (somewhat oxidized); lightly buttered toast; watery almond in the finish; very mild to weak finish. Palate: Soft. Overall: Somewhat stale; not exciting in any way.
