Very malty aroma and flavour, heaps of toffee and breadcrusts, raisins, molasses, medium bitter finish. Chewy and hearty. Warm alcofol in the finish, but well-integrated without being harsh. We had a discussion about this beer in our local forum before I had tried it, and I concur with many of my local RB-mates that this plays more like a low-hopped American style barley wine than a true doppelbock, but either way this is a terrific brew. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 31, 2009 On tap at Fat Heads. Poured dark amber with a caramel head. Dark fruit penetrates the nose with booze behind it. Some caramel, dark fruit, and a lot of booze on the way down. Too boozy to be smooth. mastabass666 (96), California, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 23, 2009 Ruby brown with a tall tan head. Aroma is mildly doggy, with a whiff of bread. Taste is rather like an industrial doppelbock with boozy fusel character and thin flavors. fidel (1015), Livermore, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 17, 2009 Poured clear reddish amber, brown sugar, malty, little dark fruits, slight hop, dry finish. fiulijn (7520), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 17, 2009 Draught at Barcade, New York Brown color, quite dark. The aroma is lightly Madeirised. Good caramel flavor, too much oxidisation and alcohol, nutty too; strong ending bitterness, maybe too much. A bit chaotic for me. PJClarke (717), London, Greater London, England
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 20/20 | Dec 13, 2009 Tap @ The He’Brew Bash at the Blind Tiger NYC. I was fricking wasted by the end so some of these rates might be a bit odd. Mega clear, some light hoppiness on the nose. Super rich and full, sweet yet bitter and sooo good. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 6, 2009 Bottle. Poured a nice deep, ruby red with a gluey head. The aroma is thick with sugar, hinting at a viscous drink. Indeed, this drinks with a robust character, full of strong, cooked sucrose. Good beer for a chilly Sunday on the couch with football.
