Commercial Description:
The Red Devil is a double dose of our "Mermaid's Red Ale. We simply doubled the ingredients (double the malt, double the hops) and created an award winning Ale. An incredibly balanced and smooth beer with a strong finish.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Norm’s, 12/27/09

Aroma: A nose of resin, pine, grapefruit, caramel, with some roast and a bit of herbal spice
Appearance: Pours a dark maroon-red color with a thin off-white head that leaves lots of lace
Flavor: It is fairly bitter, has a bit of sweetness as well for balance, it has that CA flavor profile
Palate: This beer has a lot of body, and a really nice mouthfeel, quite dry, particularly in the finish
Overall Impression: This is a really solid beer, kind of a poor man’s Yulesmith Winter (not saying that as an insult, I like this one a lot). It works really nicely. A big, bold, hoppy Imperial Red. I’ll tell you, the more of then I drink, the more I’m liking this style. A great beer category for IIPA lovers, and really a great beer category for any beer lovers. This is good, and I’d would certainly recommend drinking it.

Deep rich auburn color. Malt. caramel and spice nose. Rich body and very drinkable at 10%. A great red ale that packs a nice wollop. Was a little much for my liking though...

On tap at The Brass Rail. Poured a deep, reddish mahogany with two fingers of foamy beige head. Nose was pine tar, malt, earth, and caramel. Taste was without compromise, everything promised by the aroma. This beer surprised me as I was expecting just another run of the mill brew. It is very tasty and hides its big ABV quite well. After leaving, I was wishing that I had filled my growler up with this treat.

Tap at CAH. Pours a lightly hazy deep brown reddish orange amber with a medium creamy off white head that laced. Aroma of caramel, American ale yeast, citrusy hops and various fruits. Flavor of the same. Reminds me of the bigger dfh beers.

On tap at The Brass Rail. Clear cola colored pour with a big sticky beige head. The smell was vaguely hoppy and wasn’t one of the beer’s finer points. Notes of pine and citrus. The flavor was all the more a surprise then as licorice, grapefruit, and caramel exploded in my mouth followed by a punch of alcohol. Had a very full body reminiscent of a good barleywine. Deep resinous bitterness lasts though the finish for several minutes. I had no idea what to expect when I ordered this and came away very impressed.

Served on tap at the San Diego Brewers Guild Festival 2009. The appearance is a deep red/brown. The aromas and flavors are sweet malts, cinnamon, a decent hop profile.

Brewed in the USA... Pours a dark burgundy in color with a foamy off white head that dissipates in time. Aroma of malts, hops, pine and earth. Taste is much of the same with the addition of some citrus notes. Mouthfeel is medium in body with a wopping bitter punch at the finish. The 10% is kind of hidden in this strong ale !!!! Wow, I would like to try this one again soon. :)

Draught at TJ’s: Aroma of hops, pine, slight citrus, spruce, and malts. Poured brown/very deep amber in color with a small, dense, brown, head that diminished but lasted as a film on top of the beer. Hazy. Lightly sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet and medium to heavily bitter. Tastes of hops, pine, malts, resin, and light chocolate. Medium body. Dry texture. Average to lively carbonation. Bitter, hop and light malt finish is dry. Nice malt backbone to this hoppy beer. 10.7%ABV is very well hidden.
