Commercial Description:
Bottle; Unfiltered.
The only self-proclaimed ‘Belgian stout’ – 9% by volume – named after famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirrot and considered a World Classic.
Made in small batches, then lagered for ten days in German oak casks.
"The Hercule is considered by many to be a classic – very malty, but dry, with a hint of sweetness in the finish, and perfectly hopped. It has a very distinctive and intoxicating spicy aroma of fresh spruce that suddenly, irresistibly, fills the room when the swing-top is released. This unique house character probably derives from the strains of yeast used by the brewery – and possibly from the fermentation in oak – because the beers are made entirely of malt and hops, without any spices or sugar."

Pours a deep brown almost black with a nice head. Nutty aroma, with an earthy and slightly smoky background. Lively carbonation whisks past flavors that go from oaky to chocolate, with a dry funky finish. Interesting beer.

swing top bottle 330ml. -at Le Bier Circus, Bruxelles. Black coloured, small brown head, coffee nose. Vinous roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee with notes of licorice and smoke. Alcohol well hidden. Slight roasty and bitter finish with pleasant chocolate aftertaste. Very nice imperial stout.

Strangely unique and complex. Pour out of the bottle is more soda looking, but the accumulated whole makes for a relatively dark brown bordering black pour with a big frothy beige tan head with little cocoa looking niblets sitting at the bottom. Aroma big on chocolaty liquor, some nice roasted malts, dark fruits, and lighter notes of caramel. Flavor maintains a heavy cocoa with dark fruits prunes mostly coming through as well. Definitley more going on in this beer, will need to revisit.

Appearance is almost black with a thin, rapidly disappearing tan head and minimal to no lacing. Smell is of dark fruits, nuts and cocoa. Taste is very subtle, with plum, vanilla, roasted sweet malt and a dry slightly bitter chocolate finish. Slightly thin body for its style and strength, but a nice, understated, complex beer. I have one in storage for 13 months so far, very curious to taste it when it has matured a bit.

Bottle, 33 cl. Dark (black) beer with little white head. Tremendous pallet of aroma with smell of coffee, caramel, sugar candy, malt and further on also light hoppy and light spicy notes. Overall not the best smell however. Taste of coffee, light caramel, light spicy with a light hop bitter aftertaste. Very good stout overall!
