Commercial Description:
Old Woody has been brewed in the style of English Old Ales. We have aged this beer in oak wine casks for six months before bottling it. Old Woody will age well for several years if stored in a cool dark cellar. Serve only lightly chilled, with a strong cheese and a hearty loaf of bread.

Bomber. 2008 version from Santa. Pours clear amber with very small tan head. Aroma of sweet malts, caramel, toffee, booze and some dark fruits. Flavor is sweet malts, bread, caramel, toffee, little nutty, some dark fruit, and there is some light hop bitterness in the end. Picked up some light wood and booze in finish. Has the aroma of a big sweet barley wine, but has the flavor of a nice old ale. Pretty damn solid old ale that has been on the want list for a while. Thanks Santa!

Initially pourced a nice chesnut brown but some of the conditioning elements made their way into my glass. Now it’s completely cloudy, light brown. Nose is surprisingly faint malty sweet. Nothing spectacular. Palate is alcohol warmth, bready biscuit flavors, some juicy fruit gum sweetness, and more alcohol on the finish. Easy to drink though!

22 ounce bottle. Pours deep red with some brown hues and a bit of white head. The nose is rich, earthy, and tobacco with a bit of syrupy cherry. Pretty sweet, but not too overwhelming. A bit of melted toffee flavors with a herbal bitterness and lingering heat. Full sticky syrup body. Tasty, but maybe too much sugar.

2008 vintage. Cloudy orange/amber brown appearance. No head. Malty, sweet leather, raisin, tobacco, caramel aroma with just a hint of earthiness. Great mouthfeel. I would expect a much more viscous brew from the aroma and flavor. I could easily drink way too much of this way too fast. A lot more carbonation than I expected as well. Almost as much sophistication as an oak aged ale. Very good. I’m glad I got the last one at the store, but also sad that it was the last one. Can’t wait to buy a couple more and wait for a rainy day a couple of years from now to imbibe with a friend.

Bottled. Dark Amber pour with a nose of caramel malts and banana. Smokey malt taste with a hint of yeast. Good brew.

650 ml bottle courtesy of ditmier. Thanks Eric. 2008 vintage. Pours a murky brown color with a medium khaki head that has fair retention. The aroma is of sweet malts, dates, plums, raisins and something musty. The flavor is similar to the aroma, lots of musty fruits, malts, nuts, toffee and mild hops. The mouthfeel is full, smooth and creamy with modest carbonation. The finish is long and musty-fruity with a bit of licorice. Overall: This tastes more like a barleywine than an old ale, but its still quite good.

Bottle courtesy TheBeerGod on 07/18/2009. Clear dark amber body with a small frothy off-white head. Big caramel and molassas aroma. Big caramel and molassas flavor with some floral hops. Medium full body with moderately low carbonation.
