Commercial Description:
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Also available from Wetherspoons in casks.
"This full-tasting, but deceptively drinkable, amber ale has a good fruitiness and a nice hop edge which tempers the caramellised malt. It is clean and precise, within an almost perfect balance of Challenger and Goldings hops.
The recipe has its origin in the 14th century. The present version is a little more heavy and contains more hops. The balance between the different malts, the fine hops and typical tastes of spices creates a perfect harmony between the powerful taste of brown beers and the freshness of the blond beers. This fresh aromatic and pithy light-brown drink can be served cool.

330ml, bottle. Exquisite amber colour, pours a fantastic typical Belgian head. Smells of malt, fruits and alcohol. Musty, earth flavour with an alcohol touch. Good beer.

Bomber. Pretty brown/orange pour, thick creamy head. Fruit basket scent. Nice smooth taste. Almost too sweet for me but I did enjoy it. PS lots of floaties in this beer.

Taster at The Mondial de la biere 09 Montreal. The color is a hazy amber with a beige head. The aroma is of malt and alcohol. The taste at first is the alcohol then the malt then the sweetness of carame, but the alcohol is very present only if it’s just 8%. Still a fine beer.

0,33 l bottle.
Deep hazy amber body with a nice foamy off-white head. Moderated aroma of toasty caramel, bready malt, some honey and vanilla, minimal hop. Smooth mouthfeel with toasty caramel, light fruity character with honey and vanilla. Light hop in the finish, moderated toasty aftertaste.

Splendid color dark amber. Delicate aroma of malt with sweetish points. Middle body, bitter ending and few acid.

Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading. Golden coloured with a thin ring of white head; sweet fruity aroma; surprisingly thinly bodied; however the flavour is rich, buttery, spicy and malty, releasing some sweet apricot fruit; the finish is restrained, dry and warming, with some prickly spice and well-hidden alcohol.

Cask - West Gate Inn (JDW), Canterbury. Clear, bright amber with a loose, fine bubbly white head. Plenty of sweetness across the board with some plummy, banana and yeast aromas continuing onto the palate with a spiciness, an alcoholic warmth and lots of toffee and caramel. Served a bit cold but progressed nicely as it warmed though the body remained quite mild throughout ending on a dryish spicey finish.
