Commercial Description:
Contract brewed for Schmaltz Brewing Company. Sacred Species No.2 YEAR OF THE DATE "The righteous shall flourish like the Date palm." Psalm 92:12. Hark! The second coming of REJEWVENATOR, infused for 2009 with the sacred DATE. Jewish tradition celebrates two New Years: The first in Spring after the barley harvest. The High Holidays in Fall mark the creation of the world. Harvest to harvest - the perfect bookends for deliciousness! Dates were used to sweeten beer in Ancient Egypt as early as 3500 BCE. Pliny the Elder, 1st c. Roman naturalist, lauded Judea’s Dates for their succulence and sweetness. So important for food and shelter, the Date palm became a symbol for the Kingdom of Judea, stamped on the ancient and modern Israeli Shekel coins. Shaking your Lulav on Sukkot and covering your kosher Sukkah demands Date palm leaves. Palm Sunday reenacts the procession of Jesus into Jerusalem. In Arabic, "Tamr" is the 4th stage of a Date’s ripening. Mohammed: "Whoever eats seven fresh Tamr fruits at breakfast shallrise above magic and poison on that day." The Hebrew word for Date palm is "Tamar", commonly describing the beauty and elegance of a woman. Solomon’s sister was named Tamar. "The only difference between a date and a job interview is that not many job interviews have a chance that you’ll end up naked at the end of it." -Jerry Seinfeld. Like its Latin genus the Pheonix, rise and shine with our newest Double Date Shmoppelbock - and flourish! L’Chaim!

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a red-brown color with a medium sized tan head. The aroma was sweet date, raising, toffee, cherry, spice and brown sugar. The flavor was tangy, sweet and a bit tart with strong notes of fig, raisin, date and caramel and undertones of molasses and pepper. The finish was long with sour fruits and caramel. Intense flavor. Thick and full body though a bit boozy. Interesting.

Thanks to presario for the bottle. This beer is awesome. Pours an auburn brown with a minimal head. Aroma is great with dates and malts. Taste is a joy for the mouth. There is initial flavours of dates which moves into malts and finishes with toffee. A really nice complex well balanced beer. Hopefully I’ll be able to find some more of this.

Bottle… Clear, dark ruby lager with a small, creamy, khaki head. The bouquet is a unusual, but pleasant intermingling of date, dried plum, pouch tobacco and a hint of chocolate. Full-bodied and syrupy with tingly carbonation. The sugary flavor is of dates, chocolate, espresso and pouch tobacco. Very little balance. Sweet, lingering, mocha and date finish.

On tap at the Toro. Aroma- dates, brown sugar, forest, hops, malt. Pronounced date flavor. Medium body. Slight hop bite in the finish. Plus more dates. Dates=goodness. Imho, blah, blah, blah. Good beer

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is sweetness with some dates? brown sugar? Flavor is very sweet with lots of dough and spice. A heavy swallow is followed by some dark fruit and anise. This brewer does weird things and they work in small samples.

Shalom and Happy Chaunukah!! Pours frothy head. Slightly brownish in color. Body looks like cola when held up to light. Filtered. Aroma is hard to describe. Some aromatic "sweetness" from the dates. Nice dopplebock flavor. Slight clove to it. If served in a blind tasting I think people would be hard pressed to tell this had dates as a special ingredient.

ruby red pour not unlike a flanders red: translucent dark maroon. aroma is lightly smoky/charred malt element with mystery fruit sweetness. flavor has cola sweetness element paired with dopplebock nutty alcohol note. yeast character adds up to a nearly sour note that actually is complimentary to the ’natural’ style characteristics. palate is slick, while not syrupy it is not standard for the style, interesting. this beer is surprisingly impressive as i have avoided their product (possibly foolishly) for too long.
