Commercial Description:
Well, sure, the Cold War might be over, but you can?t be certain, can you? You’ve got brewers putting all sorts of crazy things into your beer; do you ever really know where they came from, or why they’re even there in the first place? You need a brew you can trust, and that?s why we make Purity of Essence. It’s an overstuffed blend of the best malts, fresh Noble hops, yeast, and water, brewed according to the German Reinheitsgebot the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. But you won’t find anything like this in the Old Country. Munich malt adds just a bit of color and malty firmness to balance the intense hoppy flavors and aromas that make this brew distinctly American. Vigilance!

22oz bottle. Large off-white head atop murky amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, grass, some grapefruit, light cantaloupe. Taste is medium sweet, grassy/grapefruit, light sourness, bread. Medium body, some acidity.

Light amber pour, nice white head. Citrus hops burst forward more than most lagers can dream of. Malt is a bit grainy/corny in aroma. Flavor is crisp and pretty clean with a fair malt bill and a nice crisp hop bite. All in all not half bad.

22 oz. bomber from redlight redlight. Pours a golden amber with a generous white head. For all of their grandiose names, High and Mighty’s beers tend to be fairly tame but drinkable and enjoyable none the less. Not so with the Purity of Essence. The nose has a lot of malts up front and a decent amount of hops for a lager, but an unpleasant foot odor throws everything off. The flavor starts well enough with a nice balance of malt and hops and very crisp but leaves a stale aftertaste. Seriously, why brew according to the German Reinheitsgebot unless you’re going to make a really excellent, even if straight-forward and not exceedingly complex, beer.

Bottle from Kingdom Liquors. Poured a clear amber color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate sour citrus, yeast and alcohol aroma. Medium bitter flavor with a medium acidic finish of moderate duration. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Worth having once.

Put this next to a "big" lager and see the difference. This has flavor and body. the aroma is not corn but earthy malt and citrus. It has a nice amber color and a big off white head. This is the lager that we loved 100 years ago, not the slop he big guys turn out now.

The aroma is definitely hoppy with grass, citrus, malt, and yeast. The appearance is hazy gold with a large foamy head. The flavor is like the aroma with a very bitter finish. The palate is what I expected for the style. Overall a really nice attempt at improving a lager but it’s too astringent to enjoy.

(bottle - 22 oz) Hazy orange color with a fluffy white head. Aroma is floral and rather malty with a nice sweet backbone. Flavor is surprisingly hoppy at the beginning with a smooth and sweet malt backbone. Finishes very flowery and hoppy with a lingering bitterness.
