Jopen 4 Grains Bokbeer is made as a ruby red beer made with the three traditional Haarlem grain and rye as a forth grain. Bottle (30 cl), thanks gnoff. Shady brown, medium off-white head. Roasted chocolate up front, with some nutty aromas and red berries. Medium bodied, a bit moussy. Dry with medium bitterness.

On tap at Gollem de Pijp, Amsterdam. Muddy brown coloured, medium sized pale brown head, caramel candy nose. Malty, caramellish and moderate spicy with metallic and nutty notes. Hint of tiramisu in the finish. Unbalanced but drinkable.

One can only hope that Jopen one day settle down and start brewing consistently in their own brewery.Lately their output starts getting interesting. This beer pours with a nice reddish mahagony colour and a beautiful lasting head. The smell is not very pronounced but has soft caramel fudge notes in it. The taste is a good combination of bitter and malty sweet. It lingers on the tongue with a dry bitterness. I am curious to see how they do on the upcoming 2009 bokbier festival in Amsterdam.

Bottle, Dark brown colour, big creamy creme-coloured head, staying for a long while in the glass. In the nose there’s candy sugar, caramel. Tastes slightly bitter, a bit sweet, not too much, some herbs, also coffee. Average carbonation. Long finish, bitter, Good!

I must admit, It’s not easy to get me out of bed for a Jopen seasonal, but this time they’ve done an excellent job. Dark brown beer, reasonable, brown head. A very nice subtle, but perhaps still on the sweet side bockbeer roasty smell, milky sweetness (no idea why, but works great). Not sticky at all. Soft and easy going. Makes a great sessionbeer, hope to find a bar soon where it’s available for the coming period. I gave some higher "overall impression" because it’s so much better then what I’m used to from Jopen, stimulation, let’s say.

fairly noneventful bokbier. Gets a little better the warmer it gets. Nothing special happening with this one
