Non-transparent dark brown/black colour, nice pale brown head (which quickly collapsed), soft carbonation.
Sweetish smell of roasted malt and chocolate.
The taste is sweetish and light-tar, body’s oily and light-sticky.
Flavour is bitter chocolate-liked with a touch of sweetness in the back.
The finish’s bittersweet and dry.
In opposite of the labels alcoholcontent, it’s easy drinkable.
Fine one.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 14, 2009 Half liter bottle. Recovering from a case of sniffles, which I treated with Two Buck Chuck White Zin to save my tasting palate. Pours brown-black with a sort of cola head. Big grainy smell as I pour, some unmodified malt in the recipe? Gets more pleasant after a while, more like walking into a brewpub on brew day. Lots of roast malt for sure, plays a little bit rough with my mouth. A touch of fruity ester. Not very easy drinking, but that may be a good thing, because the alcohol is well hidden. Some nut brown and black patent malt. If this were concentrated, it could be an Imperial Stout. Why does the monk on the label look like he’s lecturing me? markas101 (571), Fargo, North Dakota, USA

Creamy tan head that sinks to a thin covering. Roasted malt aroma with some faint alcohol/motor oil notes. Subtle first sip with a building roasted malt and sweet brown sugar bitterness. Warming finish of roasted nuts. sound67 (212), Offenbach, Germany

Pours an opaque, almost pitch black with a huge, creamy beige head of medium retention, but with plenty of lacing.
Aroma is dark chocolate and coffee, with a slight vanilla note.
Medium-bodied porter, with low to medium carbonation. Smooth mouth feel.
Typically chocolaty porter, but with a bitter malty note - kind of a cross between an English porter and a German schwarzbier. Booze is added to the palate, but beer is well balanced. Bitter finish of roasted malt. Dry, coffeeish after taste.
Not the most complex of porters, nor the heaviest (due to the lighter schwarzbier note), but a very, very smooth winter porter that goes down easily despite the higher abv.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 10, 2009 Bottle from Beer Geek. Pours brown/black with an ok tan head. Interesting dark aromas. Rather like dark lager. Near full bodied with mild carbonation. Flavor is mildly cola with dark roasted malt; touch of chocolate. Not so sweet a finish as some BPs. But nothing like a schwarzbier! Rich and roasty seems accurate. Drinks well.
