Commercial Description:
Nils Oscar Julöl 2007 is a dark beer with great power and complexity. It is topfermented with yeast from Belgium. We have used six kinds of malt and the hops Pacific Gem from New Zealand. The smell is roasted and soft with hints of licorice and blackcurrants. The flavor is warm and full with a complex charachter. Nils Oscar Julöl 2007 is excellent for glazed ribs, game meat, mature cheese, nuts and bitter chocolate, but can also be enjoyed on its own majesty.

Bottle. Dark brown color. Caramel, molasses and licorice in the soft but spicy aroma. Speculaas, caramel, licorice and raisin in the flavor. Has thinned and became a bit vinous, but has matured remarkably well.

Bottle@Home. Licorice, smoke, black currant and other stuff; complex aroma. Ruby colour, light brown small head, fair lace. Rather sweet, licorice, lightly smoked, the aroma is more complex than the flavour. Flavourful and is has a real Christmas feeling.

Bottle from Bierkoning. Dark black with thin head. Sweet chocolate, syrupy nose. Light taste goes into heavy dark chocolare and syrupy roasted malts. Full-bodied and enjoyable. A bit watery, but nice tasting nonetheless.

Bottle. Stored for one year. Reddish brown color with a beige head. Rosted and spicy aroma with notes of bread, figs, roasted seeds, and licorice. Rosted flavor with rosted seeds, bread, dark fruits, licorice, smoke, spices. A bit watery/light bodied for this kind of beer. Maybe stored too warm?

Bottle. Pours a clear golden colour with small short lasting head. Aroma is spicy and roasted of coffee, but still sweet. Flavor is much of the same with roasted malts. Also has the required X-mas spicy feel, but it is dominated by coffee.

(From old notes, bottle on 2008-01-12) Rather strong bodied beer. Plenty of roasted malts in taste. Some hops. Hints of coffee. Ageing would perhaps be good for this one.
