Commercial Description:
Deserving the title "Emperor of Ales" (unlike the bourgeois "King of Beers"), Imperial is the strongest and fullest of all stouts. Imperials originally were brewed with large quantities of hops and a high alcohol content to withstand long, unrefrigerated journeys. Rogue Imperial Stout, considered the high end of stouts, is made of 2-row Great Western Harrington & Klages, Hugh Baird XLT-80, Black, Munich and Chocolate Malts; Willamette, Cascade and Chinook hops; rolled oats; and two secret ingredients. Unfiltered and unfined, Imperial Stout is best when aged for one year. Imperial Stout is available in a new 12-ounce bottle (replacing the older 7-ounce XS-line package) and on draft.
Measurements: 26 degrees Plato, IBU 87.5, Apparent Attenuation 77, Lovibond 258

not an easy-drinking or session beer, a sipper for sure.

From bottle, graciously shared by awiseman. Aroma is, well, molasses and a fair amount of alcohol. Possibly some dark fruit. Pours deep deep black, with a full, dark tan head. Taste dark and roasty with some bitter chocolate notes. Feels very thick and syrup-like with some sharpness on the tongue. Finish is bitterness that lingers to the next sip. This is the perfect kind of imperial to warm you up on a cold night with some good company.

08 ceramic bottle, shared with Brothers Eric & Nathan on Christmas Eve. Pours pitch black with very slight brown edge and thin beige head. Nose is rich, thick chocolate and sweet malts with some molasses. Flavor is dry and bitter, dark roasted malt/coffee, bitter chocolate and has a strong drying affect on the mouth. Very good IS, I like them slightly smoother.

Awesome bottle, though I wonder how much I paid for the packaging... Anyways, the beer pours a deep black with a deep brown head. Aroma shows some warmth, vanilla, chocolate, liquorice, anzac biscuits and some floral hops show through. Fantastic aroma! Not over the top in the body, nice smooth mouthfeel. Heavy chocolate dominates the flavour, which is followed by an assertive bitterness. Long warm mocha/rum finish. Pretty solid, but nothing outstanding for an imperial stout.

750ml Ceramic Bottle (2008 Vintage): Aroma of tobacco, malts, slight dark ripe fruit, light tar, light hops, slight soy sauce, and burning grains. Poured pitch black in color with a large, creamy, rocky, dense, brown head that diminished but lasted throughout. Opaque. Spectacular lacing. Flavor is medium bitter and slightly sweet. Tastes of roasted and burnt malts, light tobacco, slight tar, slight soy sauce, hops, and slight chocolate. Medium body. Smooth, then dry texture. Average carbonation. Medium bitter, roasted malt, hop, slight tobacco, and slight tar finish is dry. 11.6%ABV is completely hidden throughout. A GREAT RIS.

Pours a pitch black with a big head sustained with nice lacing, very appealing... burnt roasty aroma with chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, many different aromas at once, not at all muddled, very complex... Flavors just dont translate cohesively, very muddled, with an odd medicinal finish, very burnt... medium full bodied... Wish the aroma would have translated to the flavor..

Pours deep dark black with a dark tan head (looks very thick). The nose is roasted hops, caramel, smoke, bittersweet chocolate, and a hint of roasted coffee and leather. The taste is similar with anise, licorice, and some bitter hops. The palate is thick as expected and delicious. Very nice impy stout.
