Commercial Description:
Our take on the stout brewed by 18th century English brewers for the Russian Imperial Court of Catherine II. The special malted barley in this intense and massive brew delivers rich flavors like dark chocolate, coffee and anise.

Bottle. Dark chocolate, licorice, cinnamon, and cafe latte aroma. Oil black with minimal head - pours like oil. Initial flavor of creamy chocolate then light licorice and sharp grassy hops finish. Not as complex as some Imperial Stouts but still very nice.

Pours black, decent head. Aroma is thick malt, lots of molasses, some coffee and chocolate notes. Flavor matches, with a touch of worcestershire and anise. A bit meaty, in a sense. Very much an old English take on the style, in a way quite true to the original examples of the style. Nicely done.

12oz Bottle: Pours black w/ a small dark brown head. Aroma has all the right components: Roasted malt, dark fruit & chocolate. After letting it warm up for tasting...has a nice blend of roasted malt, dark fruit, coffee, chocolate & a slight alcohol burn. A little on the sweet side, but finishes bitter. Not bad, not great, but good none-the-less...

Pours inky black, with small dark tan head. Imperial indeed! Quite excellent...with complex flavors and rich aroma. I can taste the chocolate and coffee there, almost in a syrupy mix. Very tasty, a thumbs WAY up. I was lucky to find a four pack at the Front Street Market in Buute Montana, never saw it there until today. Sweet!

12oz bottle. Pours very deep brown, nearly opaque, topped with a modest sized tan head. Aroma of cocoa, licorice, molasses, and raisin. Flavor is initially roasted chocolate malt, raisin, coffee, and dark chocolate. Alcohol and dark fruit become more evident towards the finish. Bittersweet chocolate clings to the palate for a long finish. body is a lot thinner than I expected. Just ok; I expected better.

Super dark black with an off white head. Thick rich pour with some lacing. Nice body and good mouthfeel. Aroma is rich, bitter roasted malts and dark bittersweet chocolate with some vanilla and molasses. Flavor is sweet bitter roasted malts, chocolate and alcohol. The alcohol overpowes some of the good flavors. Smooth and sweet vanilla and cocoa. Lingering alcohol and bitter finish.

Aroma hits me first: anise, caramel, coffee. Pours a bizarre dark color between reddish-brown and purple. Liquid remains that color, darker yet, head lightens up to an off-white. Taste is rich from every angle... very malty, anise comes in... caramel sweetness blends well with dark coffee tones. Occasional hint of something between citrus and evergreen. Chocolate tones are bitter, like baking chocolate, not candy-bar sweet. Alcohol taste is there, quietly waiting to come out more in the aftertaste. Carbonation a little lower than average.
